These are #194 wedge-base 12v LED bulbs (4 radial LEDs + 1 high flux on tip). Happened to have some from another project.
Perfect fit and great replacement for stock license plate lamp. Chip inside handles polarity (bulb can be installed either way).
Mine was burnt out (as you can see below) but I didn't know it.

But wait - there's a CAN bus version of these bulbs, too! (At twice the price.) C'mon now, is this really necessary? "Error-free" bulbs??
Thankfully, CAN bus bulbs aren't necessary on our bikes - yet - and I expect the one I installed to last a very long time.

I've installed one on my bike this summer, for some odd reason they keep blowing out .......I have LED in my truck and 2 other cars and have never had a problem with them, but for some odd reason they keep blowing out (dead) ......you can tell when they are about to give by reving the bike abit and watching it come on and off .............is there a fix for this? I ended up changing to this Link

I forgot to mention that where the bulb plugs into looked corroded, and I live 5 hours from the dealership so I have to wait till this up coming summer to have it looked at there for warranty

I replaced the stock bulb with a WLED-NW5-CBT lamp Link and it's much brighter than the stock incandescent bulb. Don't have a lot of time on it yet but Superbrightleds warrants it for 2 years and at $5.95, not much of a risk.

Yes, that's the CAN bus bulb, should be brighter - but bright here is not necessarily a requirement for me, if ya get my drift. Legal is all I'm after, bright is no help. Wonder what it draws? Enough to make ECM think it's a conventional bulb?

Hi Robert - I'll keep an eye on it and see what happens to mine. If it fails, I haven't gained a thing. I wonder if the bridge chip fries..... The ones you're using now have no chip, just LEDs and a resistor direct to 12v.

Another reason to replace stock bulb:

Is that melting plastic in there? Sure looks like it. Been on some pretty hot desert rides, wouldn't surprise me a bit. Black plastic on a hot summer day with an incandescent bulb just below (and no reflector)? Sure.

It draws 220mA, a little less than the equivalent 3W incandescent (which would draw 250ma). ECM is fine with it. Bright is good if you want to be seen from behind at night.

The natural white (NW) puts out the most light, 100 lumen. The warm white (WW) and cool white (CW) each put out 85 lumen, so if you don't want the brightest but still want LED, you can still go with one of those.

T'heck with it, decided to do the whole "Tail Tidy" mod, happy with how it turned out.

While I was in there, couldn't help but notice that my taillight/brakelight cable was very nearly drilled by factory when cable cover was installed under rear fender:

Insulation was clearly damaged, can only guess what that taillight costs to replace. Still works, but uh..... not what I want to see.

I checked the bulb again, for some reason water musta been getting in there, cause the connectors have rust (bike is new) so I just decided to go with the "Tidy" look with the curved plate that has a built in LED bar instead of the LED bolts......the dealership is a 5 hour drive and it ain't worth my time to go there to have them replace a harness on warranty reasons

and I forgot to mention with the LED I would have to rev up the bike before it came on, then turn off, then come on, then turn off .....well, you know what I mean

I think PapaSmurf's choice might be better, certainly brighter: Link
And I wasn't gonna say anything, but.....
A friend was here with his 1050 Tiger that has the exact same license plate lamp assembly we have. I gave him one of my 5-LED bulbs to try. He had to remove cable cover under his fender, then remove lamp assembly, then pull socket from rear of assembly - just to change the bulb. Interesting thing (other than taking 20 minutes to change a light bulb) was that his unit had a clear lens, whereas mine has never had any lens, tho it was clearly made for one. Mine was beginning to melt, but his - with a lens - was fine. Had to be from my summer trips thru the desert, unless we're getting higher current? Naaa, had to be hot sun w/bulb that melted my Doberman tail.

Anyway, glad it's gone, and you will be, too!
