If we are to take faith in the recent dyno testing that taking the factory seat off, opened up 6BHP, adn 11 BHP with both the seat mods and the new tuneboy integrated, that is a WOW HOW deal.

I have a touring long haul seat, and the old takeoff factory.

any one yet tried to play with the under side to open the breathing constrictions on either?

I am inclined to play with the single takeoff seat first,,, as it is not too likely to spend much time on the bike unless its for ratting around.

any one do any thing yet?

I know on the first year hinkley generation bonnie (2001 for those not old enough to recall). the airbox/rejet mods were the first thing to do.

got 5 or 6 BHP from that and the TOR's. maybe even more.

will try and report, but I have no access to a dyno to test these things. I do have a drill press and an inquiring mindset.

Wayne from tuneboy said in another thread here that he cut it off. Someone else i believe at the Rat forum said he simply took his off. But i have no idea if that was 100% true or not because myself and several others have taken all the screws off only to find it's still stuck solidly on by what i figured were more screws attaching it from the other side. That would mean the seat padding side, which would of course require removing the vinyl cover and padding to get to. Whether that can easily be done w/o ruining anything i don't know. You might try emailing wayne and asking, tho he's been known to be slow or not at all in answering emails. I suppose he gets slammed with a lot of them.

I have both the stock seat and the single long haul seat. Funny thing is, on the stock seat I was able to remove the turbulator by simply removing the 6 screws from the bottom, whereas on the long haul seat it's also fixed from the other side. So I get the feeling whether or not it's bolted on from both sides is kind of random. Suffice to say, I'm going with the stock seat which enables the engine to breath more freely.

But since I'm running a very basic configuration (stock exhausts, will get the TOR tune and high performance air filter at the end of the week), so I can't really say anything about power gains, etc.

wouldn't be the first time for something like this. Well, that figures. Some will be able to easily do this w/o irreversibly modding their seat, some won't. On the other hand, the covering and padding may not be too hard to remove and get to the screws. I will have to have a look. I think the covering is just held on by clips if i recall, so that may be easy. The foam may be glued on tho, to that wouldn't. i will certainly investigate the possibilities B4 tearing it up tho. i also wonder whether removing it will make the seat weaker so that it might collapse? You could end up with LESS breathing room ! Oh well....it's all speculation at this point. Maybe i'll have a look this weekend.

There doesn't appear to be anything structural in the air intake. The only place the seat rests on the bike is at the front, two side points and there is a rear central support (about a silver dollar sized spot) The rest of the seat spans the filter / battery opening. The vents don't look like they add any sort of suspension type support to the seat either. Now, why they would screw from the padding side into it I have no idea because it seems to be well connected from the underside.
