For anyone with the chrome oil filler cap please beware!
I was at the dealers for service when the mechanic came out and asked me "how do you check your oil?" I replied by saying "like everyone else does, with the dipstick". He then proceeded to show me the chrome cap MINUS the dipstick. Since the dipstick is threaded in to the cap and not all one piece, it came loose over time and fell into the motor. This instantly worried me because I could've been riding like this for months. And being that the dipstick is not magnetic, the couldn't get it outwith a magnet. So to make a long story short, since they didn't have any gaskets for the oil pan they couldn't remove it to check if it was sitting in there. They eventually got it out, but the moral of the story is....if you have this part, check it regularly so this doesn't happen to you!!

I am ow having the dip stick and the cap welded together to avoid this disaster again!

Wondered about that.....
I filed a flat on mine so I could put a wrench on it and used locktite on the threads.
Also bead blasted tip to make oil easier to see.

If the dip stick screws into the cap, then unscrew it,apply alittle lock tite on the threads of the dip stick, and screw it back into the cap tight. That should correct the problem as it should NOT fall out of there again. And that is a good "HEADS UP" for those who are using that dip stick. Dave!!

Thats scary, and pathetic that they wouldn't make them permanent to begin with. Geez ! If i had one i'd be using JB weld, not locktite.

If ya do NOT want a nut,a screw, or a bolt to loosen up, EVER,use the "RED" LOCTITE. I can almost guarantee you that you'll never break it free with out destroying it.Been there and done that just ONE TIME ,and never forgot it. Dave!!!

Mike. Brilliant Feed Back.

This is what the Forum is all about.

I have the FES Extended Dipstick so no problem. But Brilliant Feeback. I bet Triumph don't send out an Alert on it.
