I need to go on a diet and think that loosing 200 lbs would be really nice. Have my eye on a BMW R1200RT or an FJR so just throw this out that I would trade up for one of these sport touring rockets. I'm leaning toward the R1200 RT as it's got electronic cruise control.

This is a SE version that has quick remove Cee Bailey shield on Triumph brackets-quick remove passenger backrest and rack-matte black Hardstreet Slimbags on Easy Brackets-Manic Salamander bar end weight/throttle lock-front and rear crash bars-passenger and driver floorboards with heel toe shifter-new Metzlers 880 400 miles ago-auxillary driving lights from Triumph. Spare speedo and spare windshield currently being forgotten about at Clearview tossed in deal.

7900 miles. Oil changed every 2500 miles.

Have clear FL title in hand.

Currently in South Florida.

The bike is in very good shape and only a few faint scratch marks on speedo cluster.

PM me here.

Shame your leaving us. But the FJR is a great bike.

Looks like someone is going to get a very nice TBird and by all accounts very well looked after. If I had a spare few grand I would have that to keep at my dads. (he says while filling in lotto card)

Good luck.

The BMW is a really easy bike to work on. The only gotcha is valve inspections every 6000 miles. The heads come apart in 5 minutes after you pull the plugs and viola, there are the cams and rockers. The adjustments are made via "semi-spheres" that you measure with a micrometer and they are held in cups with some grease. It's dead simple. Shafts on both. No belt to futz with. FJR also shaft and valve adjustment is every 26,600 miles-it's bucket and shim and a bit easier to do than the Bird. Nothing wrong with the Thunderbird at all. I keep it really clean even the wheels are shiny and not munged up. I also might give the Trophy a look over as well but I like the 570 lb weight on the BMW. It also have an on the fly electronic suspension adjustment. The dealers are offering me a very liberal trade in and make it real easy so I may just do this swap soon. This has been a great forum and has made owing the bike real easy. I just don't love cruiser bikes.

Matt-if your really bored check out this "semi-sphere" adjustment system. Seems really easy.

What about a Triumph Trophy? From what I've read much more modern than a FJR and faster than an R1200RT and cheaper too. Oh yeah... you want lighter.

Never had many problems other than dead battery and you Dave helped me figger that one out. I never had any belt issues or coolant leaks or anything else. Even my wheels have not gone rotten and pitted nor a crazy speedometer. I've had the bike now 3 years and just want to try something new and I'm thinking sport touring. I do want something that has a lot more ground clearance as I am now so chicken shit of corners that I go even slower than I think I can.

At least I'm not going to Harley!

And yes the RT is the lightest of them all and fits me like a glove. Trophy is a lot heavier and ergos are not as good as the RT. I would have do do nothing for the RT to fit me.

I go back a ways with the RT-this was my 1975 R90 about 10 years ago.

PES- Trophy is now at the top of the list. Test ride on Saturday and the Bird might fly away in trade in. I loose some bucks but just move on.

Good for you fishy. I have't ridden one yet but I sat on a friends and it felt pretty good. There is some good discounts on the blue ones also. There is one on e-bay at Daytona Beach Triumph for $16,999. Good luck. There is also a Trophy site up and running.

Test ride today at local dealer. August is a good time to buy with the 2014's around the corner. Heard from a friend who has a Trophy is on his 22K mile and is trouble free. Not even any belt squeaks (joke as the Trophy is shaft drive) Looks like zero interest in my bike so really happy that dealers will take them in trade so readily for a good price.

Lowered price to $7950.

That's what I would be getting in trade.

I'm will get in touch with Daytona that's a great price and if the 2014's come out there might be some deeper discounts. Trophy is priced way below BMW RT and has a lot better service interval and best of all it's a Triumph.

My bike is no longer for sale. After some good test rides of a BMW and Concours 1400 I decided that I can't live with out floorboards so it's going to be a cruiser for me and as most of you know the best cruiser out there is the Thunderbird 1600. I will plan to make it a 1700 in a few months and perhaps some short TORS and even the Clearview windshield.

You'll be pleased with the 1700 and short TORs. Clearview has one for the TBird? If so is it wider than the Cee Bailey? I got one of those and it works well.

I sent Clearview a midsize summer screen and bracket to them in April and am still waiting for a full size screen back from them. Clearview has more of a lip than the CBailey and I am just curious if it will be better. It does come with a Goldwing type of vent in the middle and that seems to really lower any turbulence. For sure no screen is a lot better than the large Roadster screen.

X-farmer is out there in Colorado and could do some tests on it.

As long as I wear some really supportive boots the Thunderbird is manageable weight wise. My favorite are the Bates Tactical 8" size zip boots for summer. Great ankle support and good oil resistant grippy soles.

It took a few really long test rides to get the new bike out of my system.

After my broken foot healed, I was worried about putting a lot of weight on it, so I got Alpinestars Tech 2. These are almost as rigid as a ski boot.

I am taking my 'Bird up to Pine CO on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 25th) to meet with the guys at Clearview. They want to take a look at the bike and do some testing. This should be fun, and hopefully they will come up with a good design for our bikes. It's taken them awhile to get around to this project, but hopefully it will be worth the wait.

I will keep everybody updated on the progress.
