She started adding up the accessories (that I am still waiting on) and I said I already paid a tax on those at the dealer. The clerk said the price goes by the value of the bike. I said you are going to charge me for the accessories and for them putting them on? She said yes. So I was taxed twice for the accessories that I don't even freakin have. I should have asked her if she wanted a cigarrette.

| My first natural instinct is to breathe. My second is to evade tax's.

If I would not have added the accessories to the price of the bike I would have saved money. My old TBA was the first mc I have registered in this state and it did not have any accessories, I added them over the years I owned it. It just kind of took me by surprise. One of those rant things. This is the only state I know of that the tag agencies are privately owned and contracted by the state government.. There is a lot of room for corruption.

Where are you8 saying you paid tax on them again? The $557 was the license fee for a new bike, right? so are you saying that was based on the total cost of the bike including the accessories? If so, you aren't paying tax twice, you are just paying a larger license fee. Still you're right in that had you bought the accessories afterwards the fee would be less, but no where near as much as tax would have been. But i still don't understand how they can increase your fee when the accessories are not on the bike. The cost of the bike by itself is what you should have paid. If theres enough $ involved to make it worthwhile, tell the dealer not to install them just yet and tell the DMV they cannot charge you a fee based on the total because you intend to install them yourself at a later date. then they can't possibly base your fee on the bike plus parts. that would be a blatant ripoff.

I had to fight with them that the accessories were not attached to the bike when I bought them and they were actually shipped completely seperate from the bike itself. Ultimately what I did is have the dealer remove the accessories from the invoice. I am fairly certain that it is illegal for them to tax you twice on something like that.

In Calif. one would pay more in license registration on the $14.999. So maybe buying the accessories separately is cheaper. I could go crazy doing the math.
