Essbjay,

What tyre pressures are you running in your tyres, as your wear pattern looks quite evenly proportioned?

Shame about the bloody screw. Definitely a replacement tyre though.

Had the same thing in mine, same place. I only had 120 miles on the tyre at the time. I plugged it with the type you do from the inside of the tyre. Done 4500 miles on it now and still ok. Looking at that tyre though, you are not far from needing a new.

Plug it. I would use the "Mushroom/ Umbrella Type" that has the flange on it and is inserted with the Air Firing Tool. Easily fixed by almost any tyre shop.

How many Klms on the Metz and what pressure are you running.

Yup..... seemed expensive for a small bit of rubber and lube....(usually I have to pay more for the rubber & lube...!!! . ) ........ but I think most of the cost is for the tyre coming off the bike/wheel and with just a plug they don't have any margin they'd get from the sale of the tyre offsetting the work..... and I'm too lazy to strip it off myself...

You could always try putting ultraseal in the tyre then pulling the screw, it offers 100% seal and will last out the tyre, should only cost about $20. Just make sure the tyre is well coated before pulling the screw and do it when it's at the bottom.

I had similar screw in an almost exact same location at about 400 miles. Took the wheel & tyre to a few bike shops, had them plug it for ??32, lasted to this weekend 5900 miles no leaks or problems.
I was warned by some shops not to plug it, but as I'm not a fast rider I figured that it was worth the risk, and it's turned out a good choice. Choice may be down to your riding style? Any nearer the sidewall and it is a new tyre though.

Why does the pound sign come up as two question marks? Is the pound so weak that microsoft has removed it from the programs?

I changed my metzler's at 8500kms. with similar wear depth to yours,
and guesstimated another 500kms of centre tread left .

Regarding your tyre, The "absolute quality" in that tyre would be gone.

My opinion, buy a new set, for me Quality of grip overpowers distance.

Only changing the rear. St Neots motorcycles, 175 pounds fitted to a free wheel. Avon Storm Ultra 2.

I'll probably take criticism for making this statement, but this tire can be plugged.I've done it many times on my own bikes as well as many others I've run across on the side of the road in the same situation, and never heard of, or had any problems running the it thru its' life cycle. Now if the screw was in the side wall, then ya do whatever ya have to do to get ya home or to a shop.If the tire uses a tube, then needless to say,all bets are off.lol However, since it looks like tire replacement is imminent,ya probably should replace it as referenced above. But if ya need to drive it to a shop for tire R+R,unless you do your own work, then unscrew the screw from the tire, put a plug in it, and it will get ya there. Dave!!!

Been out today, 250miles, many of those miles done at 90-100 mph. On my plugged rear.

I picked up a nail in the first 500 miles after installing an Exedra Max rear tire. I plugged it using one of those kits were you thread the plug in from the outside using the little tool that comes with the kit.

I monitored the pressure before every ride for a month, but it never lost any pressure and now 6,000 miles later the tire has gone it's distance and is ready to be replaced.
