Well the bike went in for a service today and I got a call half way through the day to say one of the spark plugs snapped off in the head. They now need to take the head off to get it out In the mean time I've got a Tiger 800 XC Link its an ugly thing if you ask me but the ride is comfortable and it's got plenty of power. The screen is good too, it creates less buffeting than my mid screen. Compared to the TBird its miles off the floor, but you get used to it, and the neutral riding position is good. I wonder what it would be like on a long run. It's got heated grips which I've never had before, but personally I prefer my heated gloves. Hopefully my bike will be ready tomorrow but if not i might be doing a longer run on the tiger with the missus on Sunday.

I have ridden many bikes that I thought were great, then I got the TBird back....... and still have it.

That plug was fitted tooooooo tight by someone. Very rare to find one stuck.

Every single nut, bolt, and or spark plug I R+R,gets never seized BEFORE it goes back together, and torqued, not over tightened.Unfortunately, most of the new vehicles are now using aluminum heads, just like the motorcycle does, and because ya have two dissimilar metals, aluminum and steel [the spark plugs],those threads can and usually will, become one.And every now and then, you WILL find a spark plug or bolt that some chuckle head over tightened, hence ya now could have a major problem.I have only run into the broken spark plug problem once, and that was some time ago on an old Honda 750 that had set around out side in the elements for a long period of time, and as in this case, the plug broke and the head had to come off in order to get the broken part of the spark plug out.It was unnecessary and should have never happened. But had the spark plug threads been never seized,I don't believe it would have happened. So if ya haven't been using never seize,I suggest ya start. Dave!!!

Exactly The head is Alum. and the plug is steel, without lubrication which do you think wears first and which do you think costs the most.

Well I got the bike back today. The spark plug had parted company with the thread and they had to weld a stud on the inside of the plug and wind it out from inside the head!

I'm just happy to have it back

Lucky escape there John. Could have been worse. Usually they can rip the threads out too. Fairly easy to repair knackered threads but at least you are back to normal.

service manager has moved to Hemel! so maybe ok? what was the issue? the only thing I was not happy about was they washed my bike down but did not write the wheels over. now they are water stained and need a mega polish, they were not perfect so I didn't kick up. I did mention it on the customer satisfaction survey though

where you based?

John,
It was such a petty thing, I can't really remember the details. I was in the process of buying a 1700 T'bird from them, when I discovered that I couldn't even insure it through Triumph themselves. Whoever Triumph's insurer was, didn't even recognise the bike as a pukka model. Neither did any other insurer I tried.
So I went elsewhere. But guess what, I bought a 1600, and they went bust.
I am in sunny (today) MK.
