But really, in case anyone is ever considering Edge Brackets for T-bird application - forgetaboutit! Seriously, the Easy Brackets fit just right out of the box. As someone else said "no muss no fuss".
Plus after having held both brackets in my paws... Have to say the locking mechanism on the Easy Brackets appears to be a tiny bit more robust and I prefer the smaller, cleaner form factor vs. the adjustable Edge Brackets. I must have spent at least an hour futzing with the Edge Bracket mounting sliders and bolt adjustments. Not having to deal with that with the Easy Brackets this time around was in a word - easy.
Next step is to drill (yikes!) and mount the Hardstreet Slimbags that have been waiting in a box so patiently. It looks like they will mount up perfectly - meaning flush against the brackets, leaving the top of the bags even with the rear fender, the tail lights exposed, and the shocks covered by the notch in the back of the bags - just like they are supposed to do. Beauty eh?
Woof

Only minor faux pas was that the left side bag ended up being mounted about 1/8 (?) of an inch to further to the rear than the right side bag. Don't think anyone but me (and all of you jokers now that I spilled the beans) would notice. The only way to tell really is to look at how the tail of the bags line up with the rear turn signals.
Aside from that I was a bit frustrated to find that I had to drill two holes through the Easy brackets for the lower mounting bolts on each side (breaking a bit along the way) as the pre-drilled holes on the brackets lined up over the indents built into the back of the slimbags. Before going that route I wondered if anyone has had to do this or if they possibly just went with the top two bolts only skipping the lower ones (the alternative is to mount the bags further to the rear but this obstructs the rear turn signals). Is it just me or have others had this same experience? It is also worth pointing out for anyone else considering this setup, that there is precious little room for stubby little fingers to turn the bracket keys. I guess these are the kind of little nuisance issues you have to deal with when using "universal" parts vs. items made specifically for a particular machine.
Anyway, I just wanted to finish the freakin job so I went for it - and it all seems to have turned out well. The bags do look great - and I think I will be quite happy with them over the long run. Also managed to test fit and adjust my old Tour Master tail pack - so I am now officially ready to hit the road Jack!
Next up installing 3M black reflective cut outs on the rear of each bag (forget the lame-o round red bicycle reflectors that come with the bags). Will post pictures soon - hopefully including some beautiful Pennsylvania scenery in the background instead of my cinderblock garage walls!
