Maybe that's 'cos I've got the dual long haul seat and maybe other seats are more troublesome? On my DLH, armed with a ball end hex key, the job takes not very much time at all, so what's with the desire to shave off vital milliseconds to release the seat even quicker? Am I missing something?
Oh, I get it on lots of bikes - there might be some tools under there, a lock, your autocom controller box, a map or maybe even your over-trousers or perhaps a bag of pork scratchings for emergencies (that's not gonna cross the Atlantic well) - but there's room for nowt under my Bird seat (or anywhere else come to that). What is it you're all so keen to get at in a rush on the Bird?
I can only think you're all roll-up smokers and you squeeze a single Rizla paper in there in case of hard times (two if you take out the air box gubbins). I mean, otherwise I can only think that you're rapidly changing the dual seat back to the single one and time is of the essence before SWMBO changes her mind and says she's coming with you.
It's something else, isn't it? Something that as a new convert I haven't discovered yet and now I look a right chump, don't I? I'm gonna order a set, obviously, 'cos Fast Eddy also now stocks something to overcome the problem and I've already spotted he's the biz when it comes to accessories and add ons. But before they turn up and my Missus asks 'What do you want those for?' I'd better have a very good answer ready........!

Another option came to me just maybe some riders like those fluffy seat covers then they could attach those fluffy sheep more easily. say with some elastic hooks

Well, yes, yes, no no no, yes. For me, because I have a pair of leather saddlebags, small pony bags, actually, slung under the seat, that lay on the side covers, it is easier to get the screw started by hand when I'm sitting on the seat. And:
- Jump starting the bike - Emergency Bon-Bons in the air-filter space - stuff like that
But, the main reason is that to work on the bike you really need to remove the seat, then the tank. Vital milliseconds is what it's all about.

Gee, sorry. We'll get your approval on accessories before posting them from now on The stock bolts loosen up every now and then and you might lose one. These are much easier to check quickly to prevent a loss without even realizing it. Also, they are just plain more convenient with a short Allen wrench. You can see them. You don't have to push the leather aside to get to them and you can use a standard Allen wrench in a 360 degree arc without scraping across the sidecover.
Next question?

And there's the rub; the hex key. I'm much more interested in 'tool-less' removal than speed (though I'd not argue against it being quicker). Of course in my case I do have stuff under the seat. With the pods installed my airbox is a charging station for my phone and GPS as well as a small toolbox and taking the seat on and off easily and quickly is a good thing. However, without my modification I'd still rather have it where I could get to the battery without tools (and I can take that damn hex key out of the pocket of all my jackets)
Not a fan of the wingnut though. Too big, too obvious. Looks practical as hell, just too much of it.

This way you dont have to take the screws out every time just slacken them.

Hi Thatch, you don't have to carry a hex key around in your pocket, if you had read your hand book on page 35 there is a hex key fitted on the left side of your bike to unscrew your seat. All the best from Gary.

Some good answers (not sure what that dog is doing to the Harley though) and I just knew I was setting myself up for the 'we'll ask you first in future' treatment! Thanks Feduke
BUT.... the more serious element of my query winkled out Thatch's little gem about the pods (?), charging stations and tools. Remembering I'm a new Bird fancier, so I haven't yet read every post, what's going on 'ere then? What are the pods? Is there cause for hope in the 'oh bugger, there's nowhere to put nuffink' quandry I'm in? Might I be able to fit my autocom after all? Maybe even carry those emergency pork scratchings?
Thatch, please reveal all or point me at the posts that might.

It really isnt a problem getting the hex key out with the seat removed.
I put my hex key in the holder, but upside down - been like that for 20k miles.

"The Pods" are individual filter pods that I've mounted directly on the throttle bodies after removing the air snorkel that feeds the airbox.
You can see them here..
I've got some information on them in the thread on my latest mods.... I think you'll have to go through to the second page to see that though. You can find the thread here...
Link Hope that helps.

Well, I have to admit, there is a lot more now, but, quite seriously, the first thing I did was read all the posts. Those in the tech sections I studied. The rest I pondered for personalities. Then I figure how I might contribute to unique library of info on this bike.
Everyone is different, but, being somewhat used to forum, I figured it was the least I could do. You probably didn't know, for example, we consider Thatch as a humanoid life form, a larger than life, form. And he finally got those PODS!
No worries, we will help those that help themselves. We do reject the dealer speakers. Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome, DizzE. I've been ploughing through back posts for some time now and I'm getting there - but there's a helluva lot of info to sift through, isn't there? Most of it does seem to be from humanoids of one form or another but spotting what type of humanoid might take a wee bit longer still! Passed by your way a couple of years ago too, though we didn't call into Sunnyvale which surprises me now given how attractively named it is! Did a fair old circular road trip flying in and out of LA and returned from SF down US1. Simply stunning. I hope you guys know how lucky you are!

I believe that was my first real taste of PC gone mad, but I didn't taste the pud in case it was made with dogs eggs.

Anything to make this quicker is a bonus.
I got some original Bonnie seat bolts shortened by 30mm and they work fine..!! Also have a new Corbin via Fast Eddy to go on...photo's to come.....
