Just hit the 2 year mark on my 1700 and I'm still loving it!

Was going to replace my tires in a month or two till the rear got damaged yesterday. Was able to get home with a Stop&Go repair kit.
Figured I might replace to stock rear belt pulley with the chrome one while the shop changes out the tires...
Checked out a bunch of places and nobody has it. Even called MADSS and they were out and the nice lady said Triumph lists it as discontinued?
Anyone know if this is true?
Then I was wondering if they sell the black one used on the Storm but can't find any info....

Thoughts?

Yes - I heard it was discontinued.

You could powdercoat.

A real bad decision by Triumph if that's the case. Part of the Thunderbird's allure WAS the accessories range but alas it is ever diminishing and other parts are being down graded from metal to plastic construction. I wonder what will happen for those of us with chrome parts fitted from new if they have warranty issues and replacement parts are needed such as wheels, pulley's, belt guards etc. Get back to the original plan Triumph and enough of the penny pinching to make a few extra bucks for share holders at bike owners expense.

Mods: Chrome wheels, chrome forks, chrome water manifold, chrome switch blocks, front axle covers, Speedmaster tank badges, chrome pulley, chrome swing arm covers, chrome lower belt guide, chrome upper and lower fork yokes, deuce risers, kuryakan iso grips, chrome fork nut and centre bearing caps

It seems as if Triumph did not do enough R&D on some of it's accessories before listing them, now they are withdrawing the ones which are crap. When the factory first opened it was spending a lot of time and money making sure that everything was as good if not better than the rest, quality was very important, seems like making money is more important these days.

As the storm is out selling the 1600, it may be that they can't get the batch discounts for the chrome parts like they used to.

I beleive you are correct, John Bloor paid out for the first 20 years without making any money from the venture, the weird thing is that now the company is making money the quality of some parts has suffered.

I bought a new thunderbird after getting cheesed by Harley prices and because there was plenty of chromey bits to add. After waiting more than 4 months for chrome wheels and a chrome pulley, (prepaid!). My local dealer has now been told they are obsolete items and unavailable.
Great bike badly let done by Triumph UK parts and spares backup. Learn from HD about how to suck money from customers!!!

I would hate to have to go back to Harley because Triumph are failing to mark the grade.

Hi guys, just been browsing and seen this post.

You probably already know this site already but if not, I hope it helps.

(I've placed it at the chrome wheels page for 1600 and 1700)

Link

ps....I agree that quality seems to be sliding the wrong way. Remember, 2 out of 3 of Triumph's factories are in Korea.

All thunderbirds are made in the UK, however most of the cycle parts probably do come from Korea and Taiwan.
I had an early Trident and the quality was fantastic but as they have become established their quality control has definatly dropped.
