well the dealer told me that triumph will not replace the grip because it is older than 18 months and the bike is off warranty. they did give me a number to call triumph tho. spoke with them and they tried to tell me its not a common issue. after explaining how this is the 2nd time its happend to me, and that its not good business for them, they agreed to send a new grip to the dealer. so in the end they did the right thing, but it is sad that it takes a customer calling them and making a stink to get it done.

Next time give them the link to thread I started last year where I asked how many people have had the heated grips break. That might change their minds

Did we conclude that the heated grips problem doesn't apply to everybody that's fitted them. I'd like to fit some but I'm reluctant to fit something that I know will be a problem.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. My opinion is the design flaw is such that all will break.

If you buy grips and they have metal tangs for the throltle cable ends, instead of platic then Triumph as
fixed it. But, without seeing a picture, I doubt they have.

I have just bought a spare and it's the cheapest tackiest thing. More like a cheap chinese toy. Would rather pay twice the price for a decent unit. Oh well - looks like I shall have to make my own ali piece.

£10.75 not well spent. But at least I have a spare.

Well, you may use your considerable skills and figure out a replacement block in steel, that will screw on to the old grip.

I'll get that upgrade, also. Just add it to my order.

mark swepson (hinckley) blames the fitting or not leaving enough throttle cable slack. i rang to see if they were modifying them.

the fitting as an excuse is BS, i fitted the first set they broke. the dealer did the second, they broke. its a design flaw plain and simple. the new R3 grips also break.

Gotta agree with you there FTL.

Mine broke about three months after my Dealer and I were away together with some other Bird owners whose grips had just broken.

When he replaced mine he told me that another customer of his with a R3 had gone through two already and they are the same Part. He said it's because of the plastic; if they were made from something metallic, they wouldn't have broken.

And do you reckon Triumph were interested??? You can probably answer that question yourself!

I really looked for a way to beef it up. Could not think of a way to reinforce it.
