| | Posted : 09 Jun 2012 - 01:09 Post title : Mod to move passenger pegs to mid position for rider use. | | | I was on Fast Eddys web page and saw a Pair of mid bike pegs for a bike other than the Storm that I owned.
Link
I thought about this for a few minutes and thought that I could reverse the passenger pegs (turn over) and turn the peg hanger a half turn over and have the same thing.
After changing it around, which took about 20 minutes for both sides. I found that they not only give you another place to put your feet while on the road, but on the left side of the bike it allows you to mount the bike horse style. I use it like a stirrup and lift onto the bike and into the seat quite easily. The ones Fast Eddy sells cant be used this way, but my mod works just fine.
Just a little plus for those solo riders that don't know what to do with your passenger pegs.
For those that lack an imaginative vision in your mind of what this looks like I can post a picture!
But it will just look like the pegs you have on your bike now except lower and more forward of their present position. Maybe 3 inches lower and 3 inches forward. Give or take an inch or two!

Just took a look at the rear passenger pegs on my 1600. took one off and turned it upside down and it hits the muffler.
Got a picture of yours so I can see what I'm not doing?

You have to remove the nut on the hanger part too and turn it 1/2 turn so the peg can hold weight. Just one nut and turn it a half turn so that it operates the original way.
I will try to get some or one picture soon.

Sorry for taking so long to get a picture to you guys. Ive been playing catchup at work so haven't had time to do anything other than work for a living. Bummer!
Here is the picture with some arrows pointing to the two area's involved. The top one is the bracket itself that is rotated 180 degrees the plated bracket that the peg attaches to is also rotated 180 degrees then the whole unit is put back on with original bolts.. This places the pegs down and forward somewhere in the three inch neighborhood!
It is close to the exhaust when down, but not touching. I have experienced no burning of the pegs but after a while it does get a little toasty on the feet. It is good for short time changes to your foot position on long trips.
This is not a good idea if you carry a passenger I am a solo rider myself and find it easier to mount the bike if the left side one only is used to mount like getting on a horse.
Put it down, put your left foot on peg hold on to the handlebars and lift yourself up on the peg and swing right leg over bike and sit down on the seat. Push the left peg back into the folded position. Drive off!
This was the main reason for me doing the mod, the riding position of the pegs was secondary! I may just use the left on later on and remove the right peg again.
