| | Posted : 22 Mar 2012 - 23:13 Post title : Side Stand Support | | | Summer heat is upon us and the asphalt parking lot I have to park in can get beyond hot. Last year my side stand on my Vulcan sunk a full inch in the stuff. Then I got a square plastic puck from my insurance company to put under the stand foot. Worked well but was quite ugly and was severely distorted by the end of the summer. I've been through this forum quite a bit and haven't heard of anyone using or mentioning using them. Anyone got suggestions where I might find one worthy of putting under my T-Bird side stand foot? I know about beer cans, electrical box top covers and other homemade devices as well as those that cost $40 bucks. (good grief, $40 bucks!) I"m looking for a decent one. Possibly aluminum, maybe even an oval one with the Thunderbird logo. How cool would that be?
Ken

A looooooooooong time ago,I made one of those out of a 4 inch round piece of 1/4 inch thick plastic that I had layin around the shop, drilled a small hole in the outter edge of it and put a long piece of heavy string thru it so I can wrap it around the clutch lever after I park the machine and pick it up once I'm on the machine and ready to roll. Total cost,ZERO!! Dave!!!

I too made something similar out of a thick plastic drink coaster years ago but the magnet I used wasn't strong enough if I remember correctly. Plus I can't seem to find it. So, I wanna know what's out there. Doesn't hurt to see what's available. $11 bucks is certainly better than the $40 things I was finding. And, by the way your idea is good too! Didn't think about the string/cable part of it. Makes right good sense. If I make another one or even buy one I'll add that too it. Brainstorming......I like it.

We have a couple of bikefests coming up this month. Triumph will be at the one in Roanoke, Va. Hopefully I can find something similar there.

In West Texas where I live the summer temps can reach upward of 105 during the day and the pavement does get soggy! I usually try to double the size of the foot.
VERY low cost and works and you don't have to remember to bring it with you and you never forget to put it down.
No magnets or strings to worry about either!
Most welding shops in my area will do this with scrap for $20.00 or less!
Since I have my own welder and a lot of scrap metal, I do this myself or my son does it for me!
Make yourself a cardboard pattern of the shape you want to make it easier for the shop to cut out the shape you want! And it can all be done while it is on the bike.
No need to remove kickstand unless you just want to!
