Brilliant. Near on the very same trip as the Bled tour this year. I can nearly match new for old pics.

That very same tunnel

A brilliant post! I would love to meet the old devil. I think most of us are definitely soft cocks when compared to that old man and his travels (and knowledge).

That's amazing! I've always seen old photos of bikes, but it's rare to see an intact set like this documenting a motorcycle road trip, too

I also always thought the whole "we wear ties ALL the time" thing was just something they did in the movies to make it look "period", but seeing these dapper gents arriving in France in suit and tie is very, very cool.

And... all the time and money I spent to research and buy JUST the right riding gear in case of rain, etc. and these guys riding in their street clothes DO make me feel quite the wimp. I was happy to see they did bring along some heavier gear for the colder weather, though.

I also loved the follow-up at the end when the owner of the SS100 tracks down the son and brings the bikes back together!

Anybody else think this photo album is the basic for a great film? Man... I can already see some GREAT drama and a story line for it!

Excellent!

Come on, think of it: great period movie with some great costumes and great old bikes, great cinematography on those mountain roads, bit of drama... one bloke suffering from shellshock (PTSD for all you PC types), his mates get him riding to help deal with it (no doctors treating PTSD back then, right?), love triangle with the lass in the side car, bit of post-war tension.

Thanks Mat... nice way to shoot down a guy's "Hollywood Director" fantasy! I just love road movies and motorcycles, is all

I especially like the way they could jack up the front and back wheels at once, perhaps triumph should reintroduce this to the 2012 Thunderbird!

Absolutely BRILLIANT, that is "real people" history - never mind a film of the journey (probably overly dramatised unless produced by a good Pommy film maker), if only I could do a re-enactment of the trip another dream to add to the bucket list...

I just have to win Lotto...
