Once again, the CoolBrands Committee have delivered their pronouncements on what's cool this year. HD were voted number 3, in the top 200.

My response was:

I awaited your CoolBrands 2011/12 with anticipation. Lists, such as these, are a delight for provoking discussion; even the definition of "cool" makes for wonderful exchanges. I note, with dismay, that Harley-Davidson was included, again, at number 3.

This thoroughly discredits the judging panel and exposes their lack of qualification; folk (who are unable even to use the product) pronouncing upon a failed, seriously uncool design. I could provide you with an essay on the failings of the Harley-Davidson Company, in almost every aspect of design and manufacturing: aesthetics, reliability, innovation, fit for purpose, economy, ergonomics, usability, desirability. Last centuries technology at next centuries prices.

I suspect the judging panel have confused the term "niche product" with "cool product", to their discredit. I see none of the panel appear to possess any technical/engineering qualification. They should stick to pronouncing upon the Arts, Needlework and Wallpaper design, where I may respect their judgment. They may as well have chosen a valve-driven radio or a Penny Farthing.

One of my definitions of coolness is that it is both unconscious and a paradox. Any conscious attempt at coolness is made, then lost.

Never heard of them .Must be very uncool . I guess they have put Apple in there too just to show their total ignorance.

Yeah, that's an odd selection. Not to beat up on HD but it's pretty obvious that they've been falling out of 'cool' for some time now. All things go in phases and HD has had more than enough time in the sun. Naming them cool at this point is like saying Milli Vanilli is a hip new group.

You got me on the plagiarism part though.... guess I should actually pay more attention to what I write.

Actually, I think you plagerizing my statement on the HD Burn Lawsuit thread:

I thought their only issue was selling yesterday's bikes at tomorrow's prices

But that's OK - I look just like Thatch ... other than I'm older, shorter, fatter and don't have any hair

Sorry Todd, I rarely check my facts, and that's a common description for most of us. From what I read, we're all shorter than Thatch.

I was doing some touring round Ireland in August and I met an American biker in his 70s who used to race on Triumphs in the 60's.
He introduced himself and said "What's the difference between a Harley-Davidson and a Hoover?" - "On a Hoover, the dirtbag sits in a different place"
...guess he agrees HD ain't cool.......

I should have provided:
I note that the initial web pages fail to show HD, could the reason be sinister? Triumph is in there.

Wait a minute!

Aston Martin is #1 and Maserati is #20? SOMETHING is wrong with this list! Oh yeah... Brits compiled it

I wonder if Jerry Lewis is still on top of the French list?

Astons are way cooler than Messyraties. I agree with them on that.
