I hated the stock reflectors on the forks..... they just looked out of place. A cheap plastic afterthoughts to pass some safety regulation. To me they are the equivalent of waxing your car and then taking a shit on the hood..........looks good except for that one thing.

I do like being seen though and I don't feel like it would be right to bitch about someone not seeing me when I went out of my way to remove something that would have helped. To make matters worse my saddlebags cover the rear reflectors. From the side I had nothing to help me be seen at night.

A friend of mine has been doing a lot of work with glow in the dark powder and reflective materials and hooked me up with some amazing reflective tape. Its made of the same material as the month/year registration stickers (at least here in the states). Cool stuff, he told me all the tech data about it, but its reflective tape and honestly my eyes glazed over and i don't remember most of it.

At any rate here's the result. I like it. Cleaner looking than stock and as bright as highway signs when light hits them.

3M makes a whole range of reflective tapes and you can get some at most print/large format sign shops. Plus, there's plenty of places online to buy. Just Google "reflective tape"... you'll have more choices than you'll know what to do with.

Does this meet with DOT standards? I would hate to replace the reflectors with this only to fail an inspection.

U.S. Fed regs, reflector type: Link U.S. Fed regs, reflector location: Link Reference to "reflex reflectors" defined here: Link
Good question!

393.26(c) says you can - maybe.
393.26(d) says you can't.
Need a lawyer.
