Well for my last road trip I fitted a GIVI Monokey Top Case to my 'Bird.

It's the E55 Maxia 3 'TECH' model (Black and silver - NO red).
I fitted it with the 'universal' base plate onto the Triumph OEM Chrome Tubular Rack.

At some later date I'd like to install the AdMore lighting

Summary:
- Expensive
- Excellent
- Convenient
- Waterproof
- Lockable

Would I buy another GIVI? Sure - this is my third GIVI case already!

Hope this info helps someone.

As I mentioned, after seeing the Mono-Lock Givi, I started thinking it would be a better solution than my Bags Connection Traveller (same bag as Thatch's in the photos above... actually, he saw mine, then ordered himself up one). While I really like the Traveller, it doesn't hold as much as I expected it to based on its size.

While I've never really liked the look of a rear case (they've always looked like an AWACS!)...

... I've come around quite a bit when considering how easy it comes on and off, the waterproof quality, and security of the Givi. I'm just about ready to order the E470 Simply, but that Maxia sure looks sweet.

Lee, one question on your new Maxia: Every site I've seen them on says the Mono-Key series are bike-specific, but you clearly say you used the universal mount on the Triumph tubular rack. Did you have to buy the universal base separately or did you use the base that came with your old Mono-Lock case?

When buying the case there was NO mounting plate provided!
You have to order the mounting plate to your wish - be it bike specific (which there isn't one for the 'Bird) or a simple 'Universal' plate.
IMHO - the universal plate is ALWAYS the best option. You can then fit it to where ever you like.

That's what I was assuming, but wanted to be sure. But at $465 from Revzilla, it's a bit too pricey for me this season... looks like I'll go with the much cheaper E470 Simply Monolock for the next multi-day trip. Which, by the way, will be to Northern/Central California... my riding buddy is gonna head west again from Rhode Island next week. We'll back road it through northern Utah and into southern Idaho, cut across Oregon to the west coast and follow it down to the Big Sur area before cutting back east. I'm still hoping to squeeze in the southeast/east coast ride, but it'll have to be late September now.... freaking busy summer that DID NOT include enough fun rides!

Where was I?

Oh yeah... you had the Monolock version prior to the Monokey. Anything seriously wrong with it or, you being you, you just wanted to upgrade to the best?

*hangs head in shame*
You got that one in a nutshell mate!

Actually - I went for the Monokey system as I have fitted a rear mount on my Tiger that has that system too:

- so now I can interchange the cases.
Actually I intend to get the Trekker 33 for the Tiger as a rear top case (when I can save up):

And should I ever need more volume, then I have the E55 Maxia 3.

To be honest - over here where I am, the Monokey system seems more widely spred.

Well, between my current Givi monolock side cases and the E470 monolock top case, I should have it covered. Oh, I'll probably take an additional dry bag, too

Man!!! Does that thing come with it's own post code?

When you're near the thing, can you feel its gravitational pull?

In all seriousness, good on ya Lee, looks like a good bit of kit.

You won't be laughing when he rolls up to a rally with a case of ice cold beer in that case

I realize this is an old post, but I have to ask. I just noticed you have some throwover bags that go under the seat.

Since the T-Bird is a butt breather (Air intake under the seat). How are you not smothering your ride?
