I put a few dabs on my fingers & it was still golden & clean, dirty black or dirty. Still gonna change it this week but I don't think our bikes are as hard on oil as others. My B king is hard on oil & gets dirty much quicker. I was surprised how clean the thunderbirds oil was.

| | Posted : 10 May 2011 - 01:05 Post title : Re: Just checked my oil after 1,700 miles (Re: TVL65) | | | The older carbureted versions was one of the reasons for the dirty oil.But since the newer injected versions run cleaner,the oil stays cleaner longer and retains its viscosity for a longer period of time.Hence the higher oil/filter change intervals.The same applies to the newer cars and trucks.That is as long as you're not driving it under adverse conditions.I'm just shy of 5000 miles since my last oil/filter change and the oil is only now just starting to turn alittle on the dark side,but still clean.Another thing ya wanna look at is the viscosity.When ya put alittle on your finger,if it feels like water,then it's lost its viscosity and NEEDS to be changed.But if it's still pretty clean and it's still has viscosity,then ya know it's ok and doin its job.
