I was out in the Alps today, not being silly just having fun when I hit a tight corner too fast, pegs scrapped out and I ran out of tarmac. Ran into the dirt and was in that ' it has all slowed down, here comes a ditch, I am about to drop my lovely Storm' moment when by some miracle I hit a bump and it threw me and the Storm into the air and back onto the tarmac. Much too close for comfort but I have to say the chassis saved me. I have grumbled about the hard suspension but in this instance it was a 'wallet and pride' if not a life saver.
Jut wanted to share the experience, be careful out there, I am sure I won't always be that lucky.

That lumpy, quivering thing in the back of your throat is your heart.

But you made it! Better to be lucky than good. Best is good and lucky!

OK, deep breath...Please tell the class what you've learned.

last time I felt that was at at Malory Park (UK) as I was dumping my TT at Gerard's. The lesson is really simple, live within your limits or its gonna hurt - be safe chaps

When I went down on a mountain corner last June I was VERY lucky that I didn't have to trash my pants and undies... my ass was clinched SO TIGHTLY I could have made diamonds!!!!

Seriously, good job... any "mishap" you get to ride home safely from is a good one.

Thanks for the wake up call Ian.

It's always good (for me) to hear that we are not a family member of the Incredible's, but simply people that are (or sometimes 'not') in control of where we want to go. We twist the throttle - we see what's down the road (or not) - we make those decisions.

I keep telling myself this - and so far it's kept me out of harms way. Well, that and the fact that I'm chicken shit when it comes to riding hard! But hey... A true friend will wait - regardless of 'where'! Be it at the top of the pass or over on the 'other side' of this world. That's how I see it.

I was out in the Black Forrest yesterday. Let me just set the scene: It was fantastically warm & sunny, it was Mother's Day and it was a Sunday! I was with the better half and my son in the car having a drive out to Schluchsee.
I think I saw 5 motorcyclists - ONLY FIVE, that were riding with their brains switched on, and there were hundreds of bikers out yesterday. We stopped at St. Blasien for a bite to eat and a coffee, only to hear from some bikers that they had passed a nasty accident a few km's up the road... *sighs* Didn't surprise me.
We got home, looked at each other and said, "NEVER again to the Forrest on a sunny Sunday!"

Be careful people.

Leave the pork pies for now - get the sausage rolls while they're hot!

Well put Birdy. Fortunately we will be hitting the B500 on Friday and will be taking the safe route round - leave the weekend warriors to it eh

Glad things turned out well for you though fella, those Storms beg you to boogie though. I have had the use of one for about 750 miles now and I ride much faster on it than my Bird. Not because it has more power (it has a noticable uplift) but I found myself trearing around everywhere. On my bird I am more relaxed (not slow but slower) generally and only boogie when we are both in the mood. So I will not buy a Storm as I am afaid I am not to be trusted (as lovely as it is).

Ride safe everyone!

Hi

This ground clearance is something I have been trying hard to get used to since getting my Storm. I finally realised that I was always going into bends too fast on my GS anyway, so thats why it feels slower now. I have now changed gear in my head and am sorted with the speed thing.

Must always concentrate so hard when riding a bike no matter what type. Glad you are safe.

I was in Schluchsee/Titesee area last week also with wife in car. So many nice roads to ride apart from the B500 which you can do during the week when its very quiet. A great area to cycle and walk around with plenty of history. We visited the Rhinefall at Schaffhausen , the town of 'Stein am Rhein' which has some wonderful painted buildings and also St Blasien as well to look at the Dome. Great place.

Will be in Interlaken in June in car again, walking from/to the Shilthorn and Neiderhorn hopefully. Been all round the Alps many times on bikes and in sports cars and thought it was time to get sweaty and see whats up that little path that goes up there.

By the way, does anyone with an Imac or other Apple device know of a programme that I can use to resize my photos so I can post a few on this site. Iphoto does not have the ability to resize, it just crops.

regards

Steve

Stein am Rhein! I lived and worked there for 7 years. Wonderful place, but too many people (tourists) in the summer time.
I was also there last Saturday - took myself to the Touratech shop that is located there.

Steve, next time you're in this area again give me a buzz. A drink of your choice and social evening will be waiting.
I'm about 15 to 20 minutes West of Schaffhausen on the Rhein.
