It's that bat looking thing underneath.

Seriously, 3 weeks???? I'm trying to plan a trip with two plan clueless Doctors.

"Just tell me when not to be drunk and point me to the ROOM."

I'm trying to detail plan a 5K through the Western Ntl. Parks for 2 weeks... Dr. limit.

All I hear is:

"Just tell me when not to be drunk and point me to the ROAD."
" Oh, and I don't like this that and everything about that ROAD."

How do you get 10K in 3 weeks?

Travel by yourself so you don't have to make every decision by committee (a choice that would take you 30 seconds by yourself suddenly takes 30 minutes when riding with a group)

Well, it may end up taking a total of 4 weeks, as I have to roll back into Denver for some "Honey-Dos" before rolling on to California... my schedule is pretty open and flexible. If I can spend the majority of June riding around the US, I'm gonna be a happy man.

So, you are going alone? Are you getting accomodtions booked in advance? Or just winging it?

Yep... I'll be alone for most of it. I'll be meeting up with my riding buddy from last year's Southwest trip somewhere along the Blue Ridge Parkway, but he's not yet sure how long he can go out for.

As far as accommodation, I'll be mixing camping and motels. I'm pretty happy with my camping rig (Fast Eddy's advise about the Colman QuickBed was spot on!), but am taking an overnight trip next Friday/Saturday from Denver to Alamogordo, New Mexico as a "shake-down" ride to test all my new crap. I've always wanted to see the White Sands National Monument and will hit the VLA (Very Large Array) if I have the time.

I'm traveling with my laptop (still have to work, so the main lodging requirement is WiFi) and iPhone and Priceline is your friend for cheap motels on the road. The days I'm planning on moteling it, I'll check Priceline around the lunch hour for areas where I think I'll end up and toss out a low-ball "Name Your Own Price"... if I pick a target area around an Interstate interchange, Priceline can cut about 30%-40% off of rack rate.

I've also had great luck with just rolling up to a Mom & Pop motels/lodges and asking about availability... they almost always knock a few bucks off if they've got low occupancy.

Plus, there's SO many KOA-style campgrounds along my proposed route(s)... most have WiFi these days, clean showers, decent food, etc.

I've also been collecting a boat-load of "Waypoints" to dump into my Zumo... mostly campgrounds along my route(s) that have good reviews/prices and a few "not to miss" local eateries and such.

Yeah, that's a plan. I have to book hotels with a bar...

The Great Basin area doesn't have a lot of places. Only one in Page, AZ for example.

Then nothing till Moab, UT. About 600 miles....unless you go around on the freeway.

It was mentioned in the 6th April, Motor Cycle New.

Nothing has appeared on their website, just in the printed weekly.

My riding buddy and I were in Moab during our 2400 mile jaunt around the Southwest last August... if you haven't been there in awhile, be prepared for some serious STICKER SHOCK! Wow, have the motel/hotel/lodging prices gone through the roof! $150 bucks for a place you'd think should be $50 bucks anywhere else. And, not to offend any of our European brethren, but the place has become "Euro-Trash Central" during the summer months

A great little town to spend the night at about 100 miles south on US 191 is Bluff, UT. The place is tiny, but has 3 really affordable decent mom & pop motels, 2 restaurants, 2 gas stations, etc. and is basically the northern gateway to Monument Valley.

Of course, if your riding buddies' priority is drinking in bars, you might be better off in Moab.

You planning on spending the night at the south rim of the GC?

What do you think of engine size?

If it's going to be 1700 as standard, does anyone think they should go to maybe 2 litre?

Harley have the 120 (2 litre)

If Triumph take the Thunderbird to 2 litre, it will be ready for any change from Harley to uprate their models to 2 litre in the future.

Don't think i will bother , it looks just like the SE model which they refused to bring in to Aust . Don't mind the look of the exhaust though , and if i was going to tour on my T bird , similar bars would be a must for me , I was out on mine today done about 200 miles , and to be honest on the bird , with the TBars and single seat it was hard work . My mates were on a victory and a roadstar , and with screens ect , it was a breeze for them ,

I was hoping the model they brought out would of been a ful touring model like the road king , with lights , engine guards, hard panniers the lot . then and only then it would of warranted me selling my t bird and buying one , has it is i've got the longhaul seat and backrest , it would be just has easy to buy some footboards , a screen , and some bags bit disapointed .

I've already done enough highjacking of this thread, but I'm rolling on down to White Sands National Monument (Denver, Colorado to Alamagordo, New Mexico = 585+ miles one way) next Friday for an overnight camp... just as a "shakedown" ride to test all my new bits and bobs and my camp set-up. I'm packing my "full kit" of what I'm going on the road for 3 weeks with, again, just to test my organization, packing, etc. I'll post my prep, inventory, photos, and some video in a different thread... keep an eye out.

Just had another good look at that picture , there was something i could'nt put my finger on, and i just got it . That bike don't look like a NEW TOURER . it looks like a bike with a few cheap add ons , Exhaust looks like its made from scrap metal , (although i do like it ), Bags already look like they have seen 20,000 miles of use , and the sissy bar/back rest looks like something my mate would knock up in his shed .

Overall , i think Triumph best do something about it or it may be a poor seller.

If you look at the picture, and then narsisco_lopez' Thunderbird.

To me the Tourer looks very mid 90's, and the narsisco_lopez Thunderbird, looks like the new model.

As you say, you can't out your finger on it, but something looks out of place.

Front view is very old hat, plus the panniers not colour coordinated.

Maybe the test bike has been "disguised" from the production model?
