I don't like the fact that I spend almost as much time cleaning the bike as I do riding it.

Even if it's not particularly dirty I can't keep my hands off her. Flick off the odd dust speck or polish up a bit of the chrome.

I've never had this affliction with any other vehicle.

I wake up some days and jump out of bed, looking forward to spending at least half a day with the cleaning gear in the shed with just me and my "Bird".

Is it love? Or is it just a crush like I had with Anne Buckley in year eight.
Is it a mental desease? Is it Thunderbird Mania. Should I see a Doctor? It does appear to be getting worse.

Hopefully some of the more wordly members of this forum can give me some sage advice on how to deal with this obsession.
You've helped me out in the past. I'll be very grateful.

PS Please don't suggest spending any more money on the bike. There is a limit to my resources.

A guy at my local dealer told me he sold his Bird for the same reason. Truly - an affliction. I have had to consciously train myself to allow road grime to remain on her for a few days at a time. Saturday morning, getting ready for the ride, if I spend too much time fussing, my wife calls me a "polisher" - as in, "there are riders and there are polishers".

At least that's what I think she means.

It was I that asked that question. And of course I wasn't implying anything, but it seems to me that some might place their foot in a position to ride the brake. I'm just trying to figure out why some have to replace them much earlier than others.

I purchased new pads yesterday and they are thin to begin with. Perhaps many of us are like me and are used to thick car pads and replace them prematurely

Yeah sorry Engage thought it was Thatch. I agree with you Im trying to work it out by monitoring my foot position. I was wondering if I was resting my big feet on the actual lever itself not the actual break rubber. Its possible I guess as I wear boots most of the time and I cant feel the sides or them.

tiz a dilema, ride or polish

i prefer to ride

but when sitting posing with a coffee

having parked the bike in sight.....

drooooool

i do like to see her there glistening, looked on by all but none can have, flirting with their desires, fueling their imagination with her lushious lines and womanly curves......

knowing shes all mine

travel with bluenose though and you park at one end of town and drink at the other

however as we have many shite days its not really an issue whether to ride or polish

Agree with you regarding the mirrors , I've never experienced this sort of blind spot on a bike before, ...I use the back brake in preference to the front since switching to the Bird from Sprint...it's seems to be a subconcious thing I'm just noticing it more lately.

as for your other comment try this ......

...it's like flogging a dead horse on here sometimes !!

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I do notice that the bike does stop better if I also use the rear brake in conjunction with the front, even though,Triumph tells ya to use the front brake for most of your stopping power.I wanna stop when I hit the brake, not shit my pants wondering IF I can stop with only the front brakes.lol Dave!!!

A word of warning about DEALERS telling you that your rear brake pads need replacing: CHECK THEM YOURSELF!

My dealer, at the 10K service, said my rear pads were down to 20%. Impossible,

Reminds me of an episode about 8 years ago, Took my Vulcan in for a service qouted about $250 from memory , went to pick it up and read the bill , before i paid , on it the report said Tyres , need replacing soon , tread wear 60-70 % worn.

I calmy read it , , he asked if everything was alright , i said perfect thank you . you only owe me $120 , or thereabouts (been a long time )

He sort of looked at me like i was stupid and then i explained , Only a week or so ago , i paid you lot $370 for 2 new tyres , , so even though they look new . I can only assume you painted them or something so $250 from $370 . you owe me $120 or a facking apology for trying to rip me off . Should of seen his face when the manager come to sort it out , You had the mechanic , tyhe guy behind the counter and the manager , all stumbling about trying to make excuses , ,

Inside i was pissing myself laughing

Will say though dispite Varios dealeres ,all coming and going nearby me over the years , . I used them all and was NEVER happy with any of them , shoddy work , over charging , ect ect .

The one dealer i have settled on is the biggest in our city , they distribute Harleys and Triumphs , not cheap and they tend to go through a lot of mechanics , but i believe they do try to do the right thing , BECAUSE the mechanic , answers to the superviser , who answers to the manager who answers too ,,,,, and the BIG BIG boss is accesable , I have had MINOR problems on mine on the odd occasion , but when i've spoke to them they have ALWAYS been apologetic and fixed the problem .

Can't really ask for more than that , , Yet funny enough they have a bad name , but i'm sure thats because most , just go the bastards left oil on my wheel , wherass i will ask them to clean it off and forgive them , cos we all make mistakes.

The condition is a variant of obsessive/compulsive disorder and seems to excessively afflict motorcycle riders. Slap on some Turtle Wax on the fenders and tank, spray some liquid performance once in awhile on the rest of the bike, including all the chrome and spend more time riding. A nice, clean shiny bike is kind of nice, but riding a bike is more fun. Change your oil, use a good 100% synthetic, check your brake fluid and coolant from time to time, and your tires at least once every week or two. Don't bother to see a doctor, they don;t know a tinkers damn about motorcycles and motorcyclists. It is not fatal, and so long as you cut yourself some slack, you too can enjoy what I know to be a very good, well made motorcycle.

dave

i use the back a lot too as generally the lass is there somewhere and it balances the bike better.
heres the question
do you get a lot of black dust on the alloy weel rim and has the black dust stained your alloy wheel rim its like little black stains running along the inner rim edges?

The fronts do provide more/most, but the rear will add about 30%, which is easily enough to notice

Dave, I was just having an unusually rare lucid moment. My brain cells still work at my ripe old age, but they do so on their time, I.e., I no longer control the process
