For the last 2 months or so Ive noticed that when he tanks it I can slowly pull closer to him. I am prety much faster off the line as well . I never really thought about it much until we analized it. Today I asked if he was really pushing it up the road because I was still gaining on him when he was doing it. He said yes he was . Now he is about the same weight as me , we both have 1700 bb and short tors high flow filters. So what the difference? Of course Blue birds are faster....
No , there is one thing different between our bikes. I have taken the rubber seal off the air filter compartment. I did this a couple months ago. So after this morings interesting experiment I said right lets take yours off. Took the seat off , took the rubber strip off and put the seat back on. Turned the bike over and let it sit for 5 minutes on idle while it seemed to adjust the revs and then settled down to a steady pur. Not sure if thats nessassary or not but seemed like a good idea.
So we went out for a burn. Hey presto the bikes now match each other. I did say you probably wont notice any difference but he did. One stretch of road he is used to which is an up hill straight run he easily reached 110 mph where before he said he struggled to get 100+ due to the lengh of the run. He also said he just thought I rode like a nutter because he always had to ride really hard to keep up with me when I lead but this was obviously not the case . It was that I could just get to speed faster.
So there you go folks that prety much proves it for me . Take that rubber seal off and get some free ummph . Thanks to Daz for starting this one . Daz it works , not sure how much extra you get but it is noticable Bird against Bird and thats enough proof for me.

there was a thread long ago (before the downunder cad piece) when someone did a dyno without the rubber seal and it was about 5bhp i think
dont you remember your grannie telling you about the little chinese man she met who said

Yea, if taking the seal off worked on a blue bird and then a black bird then taking it off of the red bird will be even better since everything is better on a red bird
