When I change oil on any vehicle, and I've done a few of em over the years and still do,lol,I always make sure the motor is up to temperature before I do anything. Then I open the drain plug, drop the filter and let it drain for ten or even 15 minutes. There's always somethin else that can be or needs to be done while I'm waiting.

As for the scooters, after they have drained for ten minutes or so,I sit on the bike and lean it to one side for a minute or so,and then to the other, and everytime I do that I hear more and more oil, that was trapped in the block someplace, drain out in to my drain pan.And I usually do this until I don't hear any more oil draining out.In other words,I get as much of the old oil out as possible. And THAT can make the difference in the amount of oil the system will hold on refill. Dave!!!

That likely explains why you are adding more oil. I'm lucky to wait 5 minutes. PErsonally, I think that is OK - I really don't think getting the last drop out makes a difference, but I was curious why we were seeing different numbers and I think this explains it.

Being taught the repair business by some great mentors, one thing that they all were very adament about, was DOIN THE JOB RIGHT,somethin that too many of the dealerships cut corners on,hence everyone gets pissed, and I don't blame them. And that meant EVERY job that I did back then and or will do in the future which also included oil/filter changes. So I was taught to get as much of the old oil out as possible. And I do.And ya know what????? THEY WERE RIGHT. Dave!!!

I'm all for doing a good a job and if you look at the basement I finished, the stone fireplace I built by hand, the tile work I have done, etc. I think you would be impressed, but I spend my time on what makes a difference. This bike holds 6 liters dry, you don't get it all out during an oil change and the Chemical Engineer in me believes that a few ounces out way or the others won't make a difference. But, the mystery seems solved so I am happy

If all this talk about not worrying about getting the last drop out has you thinking I neglect my bike, don't. I rolled my Tbird into the Triumph tent yesterday at the Holland, MI Blessing of the Bikes rally and the first guy to come in and look at it said "Wow that bike is clean - you must not ride it very much" He had watched me ride in. I told I him I've done almost 16,000 miles over the last two years and he was amazed...

The Tbird, Diavel and new Tiger were very popular and it was a very Harley crowd.

How about this one? Bleeding the brakes. You need a special software tool to open the seconday valves.
If you don't the old fluid will mix w/new. Dealer has the tool. Or you can buy DealerTool.

But, is it a problem?

Have you used him much? Ever had the detailers try to indentify your problem? Have you left your bike there?

Just curious. It would be refreshing if you are getting good advice on more than routine stuff.

I have now done over 18,000 miles on my bird and the dealer has done a loads of work:

Replaced under waranty:

wiring harness
front forks
header exhaust
brake light sensor
throttle sensor
throttle sensor housing
heated grips

I broke down once (about 15 miles from them) they came out and picked me and my bike up and fixed the problem there and then (was a throttle grip malfunction).

I even got treated to some hospitality at a football match at the weekend and met Bruno Tagliaferri (Triumph's National Sales Manager - very nice fellow he was too).

Whenever I take my bike in I usually have my pick of the rides to loan.

The mechanics are excellent, that said they are very busy and that causes one or two issues especially this time of year.

They were awarded Triumph dealer of the year a few weeks ago - well deserved in my book.

I spent 4 times more on a BMW car recently and the contrast couldn't be more stark.
