I was pulling out of my driveway ( limerock by the way ) stopped to lock the gate and put the sidestand down. As I got off the bike rolled foward a couple of inches and you got it the stand folded back. Try holding up a T bird when its at a 45 degree angle, 750 lbs. my ass, but I held it thinking there is no way in hell this bike is hitting the ground. I am in good shape and not as old as most here(47) but at the end of the day I'm sore as hell. Be carefull and be dilligent of the most trivial things.

well done
better a tad sore than wallet sore
remember a year back there was a tbird in the dealers getting fixed, the lad had let his mate sit on it, engine off, but the mate had dropped it
£600 worth of damage. would be at least another £100 now with the jump in prices

What's better than crash bars? Front and rear crash bars. Glad you did not get a hernia or busted up knee-it's not a light weight bike......

Mine has gone down on the left side twice ... don't ask ... all that happens is the shifter gets bent and maybe the clutch lever

What the heck Todd? You need some crash bars my friend.
I afraid if mine ever goes down I will have to call Triple A, the fire department and the National Guard to help me get it back up.

Now that I know the bike can go over without much damage I'll pass on the crash bars. Both times were newby issues. First time was in my garage. Started the bike up for my son and forgot that I had raised the kickstand
Second time I was pulling over to the side of the road to check the map. Was almost stopped when the front tire hit wet leaves. Both time I just had to straighten the shifter peg and sand and polish the end of the clutch lever.
That was all in the first month or so of owning the bike and my first year riding and, hopefully, I've learned from these lessons ... if I'm capable of learning anymore

I've seen two bikes fall of stands in the last 12 months...both left out of gear.
I went to a HD rider day to take a few of the 2011 range for a spin, a guy who worked at the stealer had decades of experience and was totally convinced that you should leave your bike in N when parked...i disagree

I see your point, but I was just closing the gate so it was running. Back to your point it only takes a little nudge for it to move and even more on a hill. BTW I think the H-D's have a recess that the stand fits into therefor making this almost impossible,

Hi Engage-so no gas tank dents! That's a good design. I'm a fairly new rider so want to ask if you would have stopped the bike in gear then locked the gate, is that the way to keep this from happening?
Thanks,

Capt T - I'm just starting my third year riding (19,000 miles now), so I'm no expert, but I would never leave the bike on any significant incline without it being in gear.

reverse it out, if it slides it does so with the stand down.
best to do that also when parking on a slope

I agree with guys 100 percent, but i'm in florida the driveway is level. It was caused by me exiting the bike on unstable ground and in a bit of a hurry. My fault.

After dropping my bike because I forgot to put the kickstand back down, I won't be throwing any stones.
BTW - I took the ART class last year. One guy in a full dress Harley dropped his bike twice. The instructor was able to right the bike by turning his back to the bike, bending his knees, grabing the bike and lifting it with his legs. Nice trick

I'm 5'7" and 147lbs... so, leg-pressing a bike back up is pretty much the ONLY way I can get the job done!
By the way, there are TONS of YouTube vids on the subject of properly-lifting a dropped bike...

I have had a close call with my Bird as well......
I parked my Bird to warm up while I closed the gate and fortunately had not got off it completely and was able to catch it before it went too far.... But I remember thinking that it was not on much of a slope at all, only slightly facing downhill....
and rolled off the stand so easily
I think that is ONE improvement Triumph could look at making to future models......
Have some sort of design like Harleys stands have that lock in position and don't fold back up..... Especially on such a large heavy bike....

I'd rather see BMW's solution and put a center stand on the bikes. I miss that from the stone age.
