| | Posted : 14 Apr 2011 - 20:52 Post title : Finally, I am riding my Thunderbird | | | I bought it before Christmas as my retirement gift to me. I was going to wait for the spring, but I am a weak man. So over the winter months, I visited her in the garage. She was resting in the wheel chalks, covered up, and attached to life support by a battery tender. I took her out for a spin three weeks ago, with my wife following me on her VTX1300. I took my time going around the neighbourhood and then branched out to more rural areas. This is the first bike I have owned that has floor boards instead of pegs. It takes a bit of getting used to, but I find it to be quite comfortable. I have ordered a few parts that will be installed May 4th. I will include some photos when the work is completed. In the mean time, I am really enjoying myself.

Have the standard pegs on the Thunderbird and miss the floorboards now.
When I first bought the American, I found the boards strange but soon got used to them, seems strange now without them.
You'll find the Thunderbird addictive, more you go out for a ride. the more miles you will want to go each time.
I like the twisty country roads, the Thunderbird drops into the corners and feels real solid in the bends, accelerates out so smooth.
What I find is my feet can twist off the pegs as I go in to the bends and I rub my boots on the road. Never had this happen with footboards on the America.
Look forward to your photos.

Not that there won't be lots of day trips until then. but we are going to trailer the bikes to the east coast. We plan to ride the Cabot Trail, Prince Edward Island and parts of Nova Scotia.

I have some of it, but the rest is on back order. It included the driver's backrest, tank bib, locking gas cap, engine guards and light bar.
