How do you tell the difference? | | | I bought my "1700" last july, it has the "104" cover on the side & the dealer told me it had the 1700 kit directly from the factory. I've been thinking about this & first of all I know that any T bird that came from the factory as a 1700 (There weren't alot) had a different cover stating "Thunderbird 1700" and my bike doesn't have it. Secondly, the dealer gave me NO PAPERWORK verifying it is a 1700. My point is this, could the dealer simply have slapped on a "104" cover on a 1600 bike & sell it as a 1700 thus ripping me & others off? Is there any way I can confirm it's a 1700? Looks wise, it exactly the same as a 1600. I don't think a triumph dealer would do it, but the way things are today with people trying to get every $ they can I wouldn't be surprised. Imagine charging customers $$ for the BB 1700 kit when nothing was done & the bike is really a 1600.

But, (and I'm sure all the 1700 owners on this forum will agree) find a 1600 to test-ride... you should notice a night-and-day difference the minute you twist the throttle.

(Re: TVL65) | | | Go to tuneecu.com, download the app, buy the cable they tell you to get, (about 10-20 bucks) then you can check to see which tune is in the bike. If it's a 1700 tune chances are REAL slim it's a 1600. I doubt a dealer would put a 1700 tune in it to fool you. They'll run fine with it but it's not likely.

My upgrade kit came with the 104 and the 1700 cover so Im guessing the bike would have been shipped with both. /shrugs.
