I picked up my new Thunderbird Storm this morning. Reading this forum and the RAT forum certainly helped my decision. Lots of good info on both and almost nothing negative about the bikes.

I got mine with the short TORs, high flow filter, saddle bags and tank cover. Black mirrors, solo touring seat and pack rack are on back order. Hopefully next week for them.

I put 550km on it today and intend to have it up over 800km by monday as it's booked in for the first service then.

First impressions: I love it. It amazes me that a bike of its weight and size can handle so well. It's much better than I expected when the road gets a bit tight (not that we have all that many corners in Western Australia ). I'd call the power adequate rather than impressive but considering the weight it has got enough to get the job done. I took it up to 170km/h a couple of times today without much fuss so I can't complain. I expect that once it is run in a bit more it will have more to offer as well.

Only problem was my wrists. My other bike has clip ons so after 500km today my wrists are feeling the strain from the drag bars. They'll get used to it.

I'm not too impressed with the saddle bags. Not lockable and not quick release. They will do for now but in the future I think I'll be changing them.

All in all Triumph seem to have got it right with this bike. Great looks, great handling and good power considering the intended use for the bike. It's a keeper.

I bought a Thunderbird 1600 about two weeks ago, I loosened both levers and dropped them forward a few millimitres, as I found that my hand was twisted upwards too much when using the brake and clutch.

Your bars are different, but a slight adjustment on the levers might help.

My first service booked in two weeks, and asked for short Tors to be added at the same time.

On my America, the saddle bags had a lock, if you have a saddlemaker near where you live, they should be able to add a couple of lock for you.
I bought my bags of Ebay and previous owner had the locks fitted.

Another try at uploading a pic.

Maybe it worked this time.

Looks like the picture worked. Resizing to fit the requirements of the site took a bit of messing around.

One thing I noticed today. Calling the bike "jet black" seems wrong. In full sunlight it is really a very, very dark purple. One of the guys I was riding with today commented on the unusual colour. Just me and him, or have others seen this?

Problem isn't the levers. I think about six inches shorter on the bars and a little straighter would do it. However I think the bars are as wide as they are to give the leverage needed for countersteering. I suspect shorter bars would compromise the handling.

Thanks for the comments about the bags. I live on an industrial estate and my neighbour is a leather worker/upholsterer. I'll talk to him about what he can do about locks.

Congratulation...

...another Storm on the streets...

enjoy.

As for the handling, it is definitively excellent. The only thing I would complain, the pegs are scratching a bit to early...

This Storm crew is growing...rumour has it that Eight has traded his 1600 for a Matt Black variant.

Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.
