| | Posted : 31 Mar 2011 - 13:37 Post title : Is this normal ? | | | It's been a long time since I had a main dealer (Triumph) service so I'd appreciate some feedback/advice, ... I'm taking Bessie in for her first service (~550 miles), and new chrome wheels fitted, next week.
I asked how long the service would take and was told they would need 3-4 hours. As the the dealer is about ~50 miles away I asked if I could have a loan bike to go visit my son who is another 15-18 miles further along. Yes, we can find something but it will cost £15 for the insurance... !!! I've had loan bikes all my life from triumph dealers before and never had to pay the insurance. Not at Laguna, or Boyers or Paul Smart is this normal practice now ? ...granted it's been a few years now.
...by my reckoning £15 for 3-4 hours aggregates up as anything from £3.75 to £5 an hour,... times 24 (hours) ... times 365 days a year aggregates up to between £32, 850 ($52,635) and £43,800 ($70,185) per annum ...a bargain ??

(Re: sprint5t) | | | never heard of that, but i think it's a pretty sure bet that insurance for them to give out loaners is probably too high. You normally have 2 kinds of dealers as loaners go....the ones who give loaners out and just figure it's worth the cost for thier customers, and those who don't give loaners because it's too expensive for insurance. It appears your dealer was leaning towards being the latter type but figured why not give the customer the choice of paying for the ins themselves rather than denying a loaner altogether. That would be my guess. Around here most of them don't do loaners. Might depend on the state and it's insurance costs/laws. I imagine some places are higher, possibly by a lot.
I say live with it and just be happy ! Why? Well, no one around here give loaners usually so when i had to bring my bike in the dealers were all 40 miles away so i had to walk anywhere up to 5-8 miles to the station from the dealer after dropping it off, ride the train home for $11-15, walk 6 miles home from there, walk back to the station the day the bike is ready, walk the 5-8 miles from station to dealer. If that doesn't make you happy you even GOT a loaner i don't know what will !!! On a side note, recently one of the dealers closed on of thier 2 shops and opened a new one 8 miles from me, and to top it off they gave me a loaner ! so things are looking up. But i say just be glad you can even get one.

That said you do seem to be a Man U supporter so that does offer certain justification for the extra costing of course

Take it back and say naaaa i'll keep the Bird. they dont charge for test rides. I have never paid for a loaner. If you bought the bike there, let them know which other dealer your next bike will be from. Greedy basta8ds.

I take it you don't have any other Triumph dealership options in your area? Options are always nice... especially in motorcycle repair guys.
Hmmmm... I wonder if you might consider writing a little email to Triumph UK and let them know about your experiences thus far? I know I ALWAYS get a survey request from Triumph after service and at regular intervals. Triumph USA seems VERY interested in how their dealers are performing and how they are perceived by Triumph customers. As they say, sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease!

No way!
The stealer is ripping you off. Might be because you are a Man U fan and if so he isn't charging you enough in my opinion
FOC or I'll take my business elsewhere. A1 Moto York if you fancy the ride up (but don't wear that Man U shirt the owner is a Leeds fan ).

My experience of "loan bikes or demos" is that you have you licence photocopied and you sign a disclaimer which makes you responsible for damage up to £1000 if you have an accident which is your fault. eg: drop the bike, as I have seen people do.

(i) Ride in, get replacement bike...sign an indemnity (ii) Ride in, transfer my own insurance for, say...4hrs (iii) Shop comes out to my workplace, picks up bike & returns it before close of play
Easy choices!! ASIDE: [...hmmm...MU Supporter.....delete all advice guys, & add at least one '0' to every figure quoted - he won't notice..only richies can afford to go to MUFTI games! ;-) ]
