Corbin makes a nice seat. Too bad they can't make it correctly to fit with the factory backrest!!
Customer service is the worst from any company I have ever dealt with!

Nice bike thought.

Good pics. Have you any detail on the panniers you've fitted?

Yep.
These are Hardstreet Slimbags satin finish with easy brackets also from Eddy.
There is more on these under accessories with a few pics. Easily fits in enough for a few days away and someone else said they are bigger that the Triumph bags.
Some people seem to have a bit of trouble with the easy brackets but that maybe if they have the (agricultural looking) Triumph sissy bar fitted. These have been great and just 1 key lock to put on or take off so I just put them on when I need to. Let me know if you want more info or can't find the pics.

You better order the waterproof seat cover eddy sells. Corbin soak up the rain like crazy and take a week to dry.

Not to take away any well-deserved business from our dear Fast Eddy, but...

you might also want to treat your leather with Skidmore's Leather Cream
I've already put a second treatment on my new leather saddle and it happened to catch a bit of rain while I was in a store the other day... water beaded up nicely and none got in the leather; I just wiped it off and didn't get a wet ass riding home.

Simons thunder can you tell me is there any gap around the seat for air flow?
looking at the pictures it looks like the seat is fitted very tightly around the side covers and rear fairing
is it just the pictures or is that right?

Hi Fab,
I think the airflow is probably better as there are no restrictive under seat ducts.

That creme is nice-used it. Does not help the stitching holes though. 400 miles of monsoon soak right through.

Zolti,

I'll answer that for you, no, maybe a skid lid but no 3/4 or full. Water Proof I defer to Simon, but I would hesitate to say ANY saddlebag would be water proof, water resistant. When you are traveling use a water proof liner bag, because if you go thinking ANY bag is water proof and your touring, all it takes is one wrong day and all your stuff is wet and there is nothing worse. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.

When I tour, I don't take risks with getting wet, I bag everything I want dry. If I want it really dry? I double bag it. As long as it's warm, I don't mind riding in the rain, cold and wet? Nah, you can keep that.

Hi Eddy, Any joy on finding out whether the Classic Hardstreets will fit to a Thunderbird without modification? By the way the Slims I got through you look and fit great thanks again.

I never posted my testing on the seat cover in here because I never finished my write up of that ride.

Creams are good and all but on a long haul, that cream wears off on your...pants. The real benefit of that seat cover, it really is water PROOF, keeps the seat dry and when your on the road for for more than a day, and you hit rain...it works. I road for three hours in torrential rain, rain pants on so what happens to water between a rain suit and a seat? You squish and move and rub off whatever protection you had and like KoF say the seams get wet or if you have leather like Corbin it can soak in...eventually. Not a big deal when your on a day trip but when on a tour and have days yet ahead of you and limited supplies, it is worth it's weight in Gold, which now a days is a lot!

During the trip it had rained all night long and I took off in a down pour and road for another two hours. After a time I decided to take my rain gear off and expected the cover to be soaked, not a bit of moisture on it at all. I proceeded to ride the next 5 hours and my seat and seems were as dry as if they had weathered the storm in the garage. No kidding no hype. Really really does do the job.

When it comes to touring and I am talking about being away from home for a while, one thing you don't skimp on is rain suits, water proof bags for your clothes and anything to keep you or your stuff dry. If you liked walking about in a wet diaper as a kid, pay no heed but if it caused you to make your Mum a bit testy every time you wailed...you may want to consider getting good stuff to keep yourself dry when riding. In my humble opinion? You can't do enough to stay dry...aside for not driving in the rain and that is not an option for me!

What backrest is on this bike? Is it made by Corbin?

>Too bad they can't make it correctly to fit with the factory backrest!!

I'm glad they don't! The factory backrest is the ugliest accessory Triumph have made, and any T-Bird with it on does not deserve the comfort offered by a Corbin. :)

>Customer service is the worst from any company I have ever dealt with!

Well simply because they didn't adjust the tooling of their seat to match Triumph's abomination does not mean they are bad customer service. Sometimes, the customer's requests are simply unreasonable.

I on the other hand have had good customer service from them. Not perfect (a bit slow) but came good in the end. They supplied me with new replacement leather in blue crocodile without batting their eyelids. Very helpful - and the product is sublime.

Just giving a counterpoint to your experience. It's very easy to destroy someones reputation with a negative comment. But rarely do you hear good news.

Gonzo

I also had great service from Corbin. I bought the dual touring seat with the driver's backrest from the Gunfighter seat. I didn't like the looks of the big oval shaped backrest, plus it isn't hinged to lean forward for mounting/dismounting. The Gunfighter backrest is plenty large enough for comfort but doesn't overwhelm the bike with its presence, and it's spring loaded for mounting.

Deal with Vinnie if you call them. He's the one who suggested the Gunfighter back rest. You can get him through either the Daytona or California number. He is in Daytona. He's a good guy and will take care of you. Everyone there was helpful though.

The Skidmore's stuff, when properly-applied and allowed a bit of time to soak in, doesn't come off on your pants while riding. I just did my third application on the new leather saddle and don't have any unsightly "skid marks" on my riding pants.

My general problem with ANY rain gear is that you actually have to pull over and put it on! I got SO sick of thinking a big rain was coming, pulling over, getting my rain gear out, getting it on, riding off... only to have it clear up a few miles later and then feel like I'm cooking in my gear. I just decided that I'd invest in my jacket, pants, boots, etc. that either had a built-in waterproof membrane or internal waterproof layer. Of course, if I'm stuck in a torrential down pour, I'm probably gonna be looking for a nice beer and burger joint to wait out the storm.

FYI: Another GREAT waterproofer is Kiwi Camp Dry I always spray ALL my riding gear with this stuff before a long ride. This stuff works.
