Had a day spare so I booked a couple of hours with a Tiger 800XC (after the Tbird it was like putting fell-runner's shoes on after trying deep-sea diver's boots). There was a charming old guy (=older than me) at the dealers, on an SE. Apart from the extras that come with the SE, he had what appeared to be every known Triumph accessory + a lorry load of 3rd party extras:

From the left on the flight deck, we have: upmarket mirrors/heated grips/Satnav bracket/analogue thermometer/voltmeter/re-mounted speedo unit/gear change indicator/analogue clock/a BMW-like tyre sensing unit (gives temp & pressure whilst riding)/chrome reservoir cover.

Plus, he'd raised his screen to accommodate the custom speedo position. This was a man who couldn't help himself and know when to stop! He did confess he came in for some stick regarding that top box. He'd never heard of this forum, he does now.

Most interesting for me was his reason for his visit. He'd clocked up 6k miles last summer (he'd only had the bike 4 months!), ordered another rear tyre, couldn't source a Metzler so fitted a Pirelli, has done 2k on the Pirelli and it's down to the canvas! Stupidly, I didn't take a pic. My tyre experience was the same, in that I had to fit a Pirelli at 5k, but I've put another 3k on the Pirelli and it's just looking a bit worn. His must be a crap batch.

The most charming bit was that he'd never ridden a bike before last year, took his test and went from a 125 to this 1600!

I did discover that I had the locking petrol cap and he didn't.

Wow... That's some battery drainage going on there!

Yeah - those new Tigers are very 'flickable' aren't they. Light and twisty is how I like to think of them!
Horses for courses.

Hey Thatch - that there screen might just come up to under your chin... It could work!?

Sorry - I just couldn't resist!

I'd like to know how he relocated the speedo unit. That's where it should have been from the start.

i agree.

would have to have a more interesting blank cut though to fill the empty speedo housing

maybe we could tak alain into printing out a batch of spedo casings -

whats the chance alain??

if mats laser does rastering he could cut the discs and raster a suitable tbird logo in stainless,
then we could infil with paint, but you know the waiting time for british manufacturing .....
id offer if you wanted non metal

One...I like that gage relocation...wish, as well, that there was a kit that could move it to that location...seamlessly.
Two...Does the GI Pro do anything (like it does for the Rocket III) for the T-bird other than be a gear indicator?
Three...what is the "thingy" to the upper right of the tach/speedo?
Four...what is that "thingy" on the right handlebars?

Three...what is the "thingy" to the upper right of the tach/speedo? The GI Pro indicator... isn't it!!!? Left is the Volt meter.
Four...what is that "thingy" on the right handlebars? The tyre pressure and temperature indicator

Three - that is a gear indicator
Four - that is the electric meter
five - the 'thingy' to the upper left of the speedo looks like the coin slot for the electric meter.

Chrome radiator shroud, check
Too many distractions on the bars, check

I like the repositioned speedo though

Cruisin' on thru the junction i'm flyin' 'bout the speed of sound
Noticin' peculiar function i ain't no roller coaster show me down.
I turned away to see her woa! she caught my eye

Jeez, his windshield is GIGANTIC... and he's got a Laminar Lip on top of that! Thatch is right, a convertible would have been a better choice for him

I know some of you complain about the 'Bird's dash, but I PERSONALLY think having the stock speedo up on the bars looks weird and out of place. Though, I do understand that many of you would rather have the speedo in your line of sight... too bad the R3 gauges couldn't be made to work or that Triumph could offer an alternate gauge package for the 'Bird.

Did anybody spot where he mounted the ashtray?

and I bet there's a comb holder and mirror in the top box.

Many moons ago I had a mate who bought an Honda Esplicade, esplanade, ??? something like that, it was a fully dressed goldwing with stereo, glove compartment etc. Then he opened the colour co-ordinated top box and proudly displayed the fold down flap on the lid that lifted to show a mirror and a comb holder.

Couldn't believe how proud of it he was. If I ever go that way you know the answer

That would be the Honda Gold Wing "Aspencade". I had one of those lighted mirrors (don't remember it being a comb holder though) but the reason I got it for was so my wife could fix her hair once she took her helmet off so she could look nice before going inside somewhere. Unfortunately she didn't ride with me that much so on my next Gold Wing (2006, first one was a 2003) I didn't bother with the lighted mirror "thingy".

And since she didn't ride much with me....once I got my 2008 Mustang GT...she said I could have two but not all three so I gave up the Gold Wing and kept the Rocket and the Mustang.

Yea that's it, knew I didn't have the name right. The one I saw had a flap covering the mirror with a slot for the comb.

Almost everybody with a long term other half has to appease the ladies just to keep the complaints down. But did you proudly show off the mirror to your mates?

Not really...and it also interfered with stowing your helmet in the top box/trunk...it would scuff up the top of the helmet so I probably wouldn't have gotten it on the second one anyway.

Whilst one could never accuse the Tbird of being under-powered, I think this one is over-powered by it's burden for my taste.

Of it's 68 hp, 18 hp to run the glowing alternator on full draw of accessories, 50 hp left to try and defy the laws of physics and push what now equates to a hangar door through a headwind!

6 mpg into the wind, but must be pretty good with tail-wind as the engine would only need to run the alternator with that spinnacre on the front.

But one mans bread is another mans poison so if it's what he desires good on him.

I now I feel guilty as I'm probably the size of that spinnacre so pot and kettle eh.
