Has anyone used one of these? Link
If it holds the bike safely it would certainly make cleaning etc easier.

I own a J &S jack Link but despite the assurances from several people on this board I have not had the courage to lift the bike using the plywood piece. One of my problems is that I rarely have anyone around to "spot" for me when I lift so i would like something that I can have 100 percent confidence in.

I don't own a chock, but my bike was just on one at Bitchn Stitchn when they fit me for my custom saddle... the bike didn't move one inch while strapped in.

Everyone on this forum that uses the "plywood on the jack" method swears by it, but I couldn't bring myself to use it, either. Just sold my jack yesterday as a matter of fact.

I've been threatening to make a mod for a Pit Bull rear stand, but have been too busy with other projects and I'm not the best with metals fabrication. Gonna get around to (at least) doing the preliminary drawings one of these days... gotta basically brand-new Pit Bull rear stand laying arond just begging to be put to use.

unsure how you would polish the wheel though if its located in the chock!

if your worried about a jack and ply under the sump , part lift so the bikes wheels are still just in contact with the ground, but the bike is upright
i do this when polishing the alloys, adds a bit of stability, run a wheel spinner under the tyres, gets wheels done in no time.

Screw jacks... I'm just gonna buy me a Capuchin monkey and teach him to wash my bike for me. Might end up with a clean bike, but monkey shit on the seat.

I picked up one of these:

Link
for my utility trailer - just used it to tow the wife's Tiger - does the job. And it is a lot less expensive. Yes I would trust it to handle my T-bird. If you wanted to just kick it around the garage you could secure it to a sheet of plywood or whatnot.

You can purchase one of these from Harborfreight.com for less. I got mine on sale for $29.95 US. Get the 20% discount from most motorcycle mags. Always use your tie downs. This must have a wide support bar attached (not included) to use it if just sitting on the floor and if not bolted down to a trailer or anchored to the floor.
Cheers

If there's a T-bird in the garage then your either sick, broke or missing the time of your life.
Get out and ride that Bird.

The Tbird arrived June 26, 2009 - Speedy was traded in June for a 2012 Bonnie T100.

thanks Gary I am gong to get this one Link It looks pretty sturdy but I will heed your warning about either mounting to the garage floor or adding a wide support bar. I have also ordered some tie downs and will use these as well.

It will be good not to have to perform body contortions to check fluids etc

Hey Peter,
Someone suggested bolting down to a piece of plywood which sounded reasonable and if sturdy enough to attach some straps to could work OK. Then you could move it around and store it when not needed. The plywood could be made to any size.
You only need to go out about a foot on either side of the stand to have tie downs to support the bike. I used a piece of sturdy steel flat bar at first until I bolted it down to my motorcycle lift. I also bolt it down to the bed of my truck when on occasion I haul my Speedmaster up north for a ride with my riding friends.
The stand even works on the Zuma 50 scooter when its on the lift.
I typically just ride the bike right into the stand and have left it sitting straight up with no straps for a short time but not when working on the bike. Suggest putting a block between the stand and the wall if you do. Otherwise, the bike may want to keep traveling once the front tire is locked in unless you hit the rear brake at the right time.
The stand has two adjustments for the pivot point of the rocking mechanism. I think the instructions told what was best for what size tire/wheels. If not try both and see what seems to hold it the tightest.
Good luck
Gary
