The Australian 59 Club (Link ) had a bit of a "do" today at Launching Place Victoria. I dont know much about these guys but they were extremely welcoming of all riders and all bikes. It was like a mini Sturgis.....a very mini Sturgis!! There was a band, food and drink and was a great day out.

Tom from AJ's Motorcycles in Shepparton was there and had a few Triumphs there to look at. The two main bikes of interest to me was the Storm and the Tiger 800.

Now, I was never a fan of the Storm, having only seen them on the internet and not in the "flesh"
The Tiger on the other hand I liked thou also never having seen one in the flesh.

Got to ride both!!

The Storm!! I had no idea 100 extra cc's could make such a difference, I need a Big Bore Kit!!

When I rode the Storm back to display, my wife obviously saw the huge grin on my face because I saw her say "oh Shit" and turn her head away.

The Tiger 800. First of all, I'm not sure what that type of bike should feel like, having never ridden anything like it before. But I have to say as much as I didn't hate it, I didn't like it. It has no character, no soul, ( I know its a machine). It is easy to ride and very predictable and seems to do everything right and doing a little rear wheel steering its very forgiving. But it just didn't excite me, it feels to sanitized. I prefer something more visceral.

Please, these are only one persons opinion.

Some nice machines there.

I sat on a Storm yesterday at the Gold Coast dealer, didn't do it for me, also thought the bars looked a bit cheap or skinny. Actually sat on three birds with different bars and they all felt much the same, position wise.

It's great ain't it. But 100 cc does NOT make that much different....the cams + 100cc is what does it. The cams are probably responsible for the majority of the extra grunt.

I've been quoted around $2,000.00 to supply and fit a Big Bore Kit. I wonder if it may be worth enquiring about just a camshaft replacement?

You see, the biggest problem is that I have now ridden the 1700cc. before I rode it, it wasn't a problem. Now, I think I need it!!

i checked out the storm today and i have to say there was two their a new one and a demo
the new one looks quiet good(still prefer my one) and the demo had 1100kms on it but looked like it had
been in the Paris Dakar if this is what they look like after a few rides i would hate to see one in a year or two.
the panels and motor were stained very badly even the wheels looked dull
i asked the salesman what had happened to the bike and he told me that it had been ridin in the rain
i told him it looked like it had been dragged through the bushes and it looks like crap(i wonder why he walked away).

eddy, $2000 is a little high i paid $1700 but i bought my kit from north county yamaha
i don't think you would be happy with just the cams the combo of cams and pistons and a proper tune is what makes it.

Hey Jamie, thanks for the advice. It's much appreciated. I will look into it further.

I can imagine a Storm looking a little ratty if not clean. Thats one of the reasons I got a silver bird, it hides the dirt and scratches a lot better, that and the fact that I thought the silver would be less common.

I think the thing I liked about the Storm most was that it was a single seater with no "bling". I have had to do mine up for two up riding, big seat, sissy bar etc etc.

Maybe I need two thunderbirds??

Yes, you need 2.
