| | Posted : 18 Mar 2011 - 13:24 Post title : One step forward Two steps back | | | So, in my continuing trials of getting back on 2 wheels with some regularity I took the bike in today to get inspected.
Now, as most of you know the bike took some damage in the move and fixing it has been running really slowly. From the estimate to the insurance 'OK' (still hasn't come) and now to not a single painter actually returning my calls or emails. The 3000+ Euros worth of damage has yet to be address and I leave for the states for another month long job on Monday. I had a schedule all sorted, had things set so I could take the bike to the shop, have the tins pulled and taken to the painters while Triumph replaced the headers did a tune up and replaced my rear tire.
In the meantime I had to get the bike inspected. I was a bit concerned about this one as I have the BC pipes on it still and while not deafening by a long shot, it is louder than most bikes I hear here. The other issue was my mirrors. I yanked them when I put on the broomstick and just didn't put them back on. From stock I never could see anything but my elbows and once I put on the drag bar I just saw more of them, but I knew it wouldn't pass without them.... and they were lost. So, one last mad dash through the garage this morning and I finally stumbled onto the elusive box, threw them back on the bike and headed for the base only to get the bike rejected because my back tire is bald.
No amount of pleading or subtle threats would move this guy. He just failed me. I explained the situation, stated I was taking the bike to get the tire done, but since I have to have my inspections done on post I needed to do this first before dropping the bike off. Nope, nothin' doing. So, instead of going from the base to the dealership with that tire I had a 25 mile ride back to the house so that after I get back from my trip I can drive 25 miles back to the base and get the bike re-registered so I can then drive the opposite direction another 35 miles to get the tire done on another temporary tag so I can ride the bike back the 35 miles to get another inspection done.....
You know, in my head this was all planned out so well.... fuckin' Metzelers I don't have half the miles many of you guys have because of being in transit for so long but could they have just given me a few more miles...

Just a lil dig at my German friends. (their actually both German)
The guy was right, it was low, but there are some unique circumstances with folks overseas and the fact that the inspection station is right next to the receiving port for vehicles makes it where a bit of leniency is called for. Vehicles come in directly from shipment and are rolled over to get inspected. Often times damage occurs during shipment or you just don't have all that is needed to take a US spec vehicle to pass a German inspection. In my case I had some time BUT because of damages I had to schedule how I was going to get it all done. To put it in the shop for a tire so I could run it and get it inspected so I could put it back in the shop to get damage repaired seems a bit silly. I took my chances and got the tough guy and now I'm a bit screwed.
Looks like I'll have a wooded bird for the trip to Bled.

Your Bird will just have more character than the rest of ours fella.
...and your Bird will have a story or two to tell after Bled.

and the logic of the inspector completely fails me.... if he passed it you would get the tyre done - 35 miles instead he makes you ride 85 miles on a failed tyre!
was he called adolf?
you seem to be having a fair run of bad fortune thatch, hope it turns asap.

Mrs1600's inspectors wont even give me a break - did without my cage for a week cos he had a slight niggle with something. They are made of differant stuff to the rest of us.

(been slipping in the corners for a while now, but no time to sort it) BUT you are right in that logically its much worse for my safety because of the failure. Ah well. One more thing to do when I get back here...
Yeah mat, I'm not too thrilled the bike be all battered for the trip to Bled. I was hoping it would be all purty for that trip. Ah well. At lease I will be.

I know it doesn't help - and probably will just fuel the fire, but - over this way my car 'sort-of' failed it's test: Both the Horn and a light bulb didn't work! He passed it under the condition that I signed the release paper stating that the errors were recognized and I had 1 week to get them fixed!
I hope it works out for you.
