The swing arm bolt has sheared off on my bike I've done 34,000 Klm in getting fixed now. I don,t do burnouts
or ride too aggressively so don't know why it happened

After reading your post, and THANK YOU for posting it, I went to an exploded parts fiche to study the swing arm and components used to hold it in place on the main frame. The only things I can see that may have caused the problem, is the long attachment bolt itself was defective, the bushins/spacers were assembled in the wrong order,or the nut that holds that long bolt in place securing the swing arm assembly to the main frame was over torqued, which would place a lot more stress on it then it could handle.Any of those could cause that bolt to break. At any rate, please keep us advised as to just what Triumph finds or believes caused this to happen.I myself would be very interested in their findings as I'm sure others here would be too.I'm glad you weren't injured as a problem such as this could have had catastrophic results.Keep us posted. Dave!!!

It sheared at the nut, just as I was turning into an underground carpark. Heard loud bang and saw nuts bouncing along side the bike.
Bike will be ready for pickup tomorrow morning Aussie time they are also replacing my speedo while in there.

Crikey Rabbit, you are very lucky that it was low speed, that is incredible. Glad you are ok and would love to know what your dealer thinks caused it. Guess we should all get the torque wrench out and check.

Rabbit,

Really lucky you were going slow at the time.
I have been riding for 45 years and never had a puncture, I picked up my bird in Feb 2010 and had the rear tyre blow out the following weekend doing 100 kph on a country road. This really freaked me out and it took a few months for me to feel confident riding again. Hopefully yours is a one off issue and you were just unlucky.Maybe Triumph need to check the swing arm bolt out.

No other damage, dealer took Bird off floor and used parts to get me back on road, seems to think the factory may
have over torqued the nut at assembly probaly using rattle gun
New speedo fitted back to zero klms
