| | Posted : 14 Mar 2011 - 20:56 Post title : Done 500 miles on a Storm | | | Yes I have managed to take a new Storm up to it's first service.
Here's a summary of what I think:
Handling/Performance
Fantastic - power and T bars offer a great riding experience. Needs short TORS and a performance air filter then you got yourself a flying machine.
Looks
Gloss black doesn't quite work for me although mat black will look better. Too much black for me - I am not quite a chomaholic (ok I am) but I like the contrast of chrome and black. Not overly impressed with the twin headlights - they need to be chome and I prefer the wheels to be alloy or chrome (ok ok my name is BlueNose and I'm a chromaholic).
If I had my time all over again I would go for the Thunderbird 1700 over the Storm but the fact remains the Storm is brilliant.
However I will stick with my 1600 (I have missed it over the past week) - will probably do so until I'm planted.

Maybe next year they will put out a "regular" 1700 version with three or four color variations to choose from...you can alway's hope.
Heck...I'm hoping they do that for the R3T.

Moliman i keep saying to the wife i should get rid of the rocket tourer , and spend a couple of grand buying the floorboards , screen and bags for the T bird , then have a one bike does all , but has much has commonsence says i should do that , because i really enjoy riding the T bird especially where the tr3 is a pig , (in heavy traffic ). I say i'm gonna do it , but then i take the beast out .
And there is just no feeling i can get from ANY other bike than when i am cruising along , minding my own buisness and get sick of the truckie in front ,or the old lady driving the pensioner club on a day out ,and i'm stuck 6 cars behind and i say , stuff it and unleash the beast , and within SECONDS i'm flying past at 100 mph and still climbing on a machine that including me weighs probably half a ton . When you unleash the beast theres no feeling like it.

Althiough the styling doesnt lend itself to such things as screens and backrests. Can't figure out why it seemed to be lighter at the front end, maybe it was the bars . For me it will have to be the BB kit or wait and see what else Triumph have to offer when I come to change bike (TBird of course).

Got my T'Bird back today and I much prefer it to the Storm (though it is a great bike)....and you know what you are right the 1600 has enough poke.
One thing I spotted that concerned me on the Storm - the stand had already started to rust. Not a good sign.

I don't know, but I'd say that extra 100cc does a pretty nice job of lightening up the front end of my bike.
Glad you got to play with one. They remind me too much of bikes like the Honda Fury... 'instant-badass, just add accountant' But, I can't much fault anyone for getting one, they are at the end of the day a big bore tbird and I'm damn pleased with mine so....

More i think of it has well the storm i veiwed had a backrest on rear seat and a rear bag attached to the backrest ,
THEY JUST DID'NT LOOK RIGHT

Honda Fluffy more like - can't remember which but some magazine somewhere in the western world named the Fluffy the cruiser of the year - must have been the BAAB monthly (Bad Ass Accountant Biker).
