| | Posted : 12 Mar 2011 - 11:15 Post title : Warranty question | | | Has anybody had any issues with purchasing OEM Thunderbird parts overseas and having them installed by your local dealer? I bought some accessories- auxiliary lights and alarm/immobilizer from the USA as I saved hundreds of dollars. The dealer fitted both before I took delivery of the bike. At the time the salesman (who has since resigned) told me that there wouldn't be any warranty issues as they were OEM parts. Whilst I was getting an insurance quote for the damage from being T boned the sales manager was saying that there is no coverage for the alarm they fitted ( I had asked them to fill in registration paperwork for the warranty of the alarm). Further comments were along the line of Triumph no longer using that alarm etc. The main reason being that I did not purchase it through them. I got stuck in by saying that they are OEM parts installed by a licensed dealer and it they f*ck up then I do have some recourse. Standard reply was that I have to go through the dealer in the US.

what has gone wrong?
is it just the alarm?
was the crash responsible for the alarm damage? if its crash damage its the insurance to renew end of story. it was fine before the crash, knackered after. voila, insurance.
if its not fitted correctly its your fitter to put it right, they opened the box they fitted the parts.

I work in the marine industry and Mercury did this last year(applause ) but they had to go through all the relevant government crap and get the ok from the US as well, then put out a nation wide press release.
I can see more of this happening though, as it is hurting our market big time, but that is another discussion.
