| | Posted : 06 Mar 2011 - 21:26 Post title : Is this just my Thunderbird ownership "Initiation" ? | | | Picked up Bessy brand spanky new on tuesday with 0.7 miles, 51 miles from dealer to home.
Freezing cold, shitty and damp roads. Took her out today after a bit of a clean over/check everything session ( fitted new chrome thin rack) , wife wanted something at Tesco ( any excuse) 12 mile round trip..... coolant leak !!
Am I now officially in the gang ?
Judging by the spillage below the hoses and the spray pattern on the hoses I think it might be coming from the slightly thicker pipe above the fan, coming from the radiator end toward the engine. I tightened up the thicker hose's clamp and I'll keep my fingers crossed.

They've long since fixed the leak issues but the clamps are often too loose. Mine were very loose. So i wouldn't worry at all because you probably fixed it. Besides, the part issue that was causing the first production run to leak was on the back, not front. Front is surely hose clamps i believe. On a related note, i just changed my coolant today for the first time. A PITA for sure, but not something i'd ever take it in for. Conrrats on the bike, you're gonna love it. Did you get the 1600 or 1700?

You will have a ball on it, enjoy the spring weather coming soon.

It would be worth just checking the coolant manifold bolts

DAZ, I got the 1700 Big Bore in black, I ordered short TORs and a chrome rear pulley for day1( and chrome wheels, but that's a different story on another thread !!! )
You're braver than me I wouldn't want to begin to change the coolant, ...but what I am missing almost straight away is this the first bike I've had with no centre stand, that is a big PITA !!

As to the center stand, it's a pretty heavy bike to have one i think. But really you don't need it because pretty much anything you'd need to do that requires the bike be upright requires a left anyways like removing wheels or forks. Coolant, oil, all that can be done on the side stand.
