Despite him loving my new Bird and not believing that I was still on break in he wrote me up anyway. I showed him the odometer but not go.....I was going 65 in a 70. I was on I 10 near Tallahassee on a long down hill stretch and saw the flashing blue and red lights miles behind me so was going slow to let him go by but to my horror he pulls me over on the Bird.......What can one say........not much. I do have a great radar detector discretely mounted on the Bird and it has saved me a few times but this time I was screwed glued and tattooed. I was so angry but just took the ticket and went on my way, very pissed off.
Went to the friendly folks at the Ticket Clinic and they wanted $200 to plead my case-I won the case as I had recorded where I was stopped and where the radar said they got me was 10 miles ahead... but the court charged me guess what $251 in court costs. I love small town Florida fund raising efforts....it's a stinking speed trap. How ever, no record and no points so there is justice in America if you can pay for it.
I'm working down South Florida and brought the Bird and today did 200 miles down to Key Largo.. all on the Florida Turnpike..rode mostly in the fast lane and just to keep up was going over 80 most of the way and I was passed constantly by cars on my right. It's like Nascar down here which is where I think most Americans figure out how to drive by watching it on TV. What happend to one car length for every 10 mph of speed. Did that go away with ABS brakes? I have never driven so fast in my life for this long. I guess safety in numbers and the local Troopers just seemed to ignore it all.

wonder if the police have targets to hit, just dislike bikers ,is your bike the wrong colour or maybe he gets a bonus
i just won a case where a woman pulled out infront and caused me to come off, admited liability at the scene but later wouldnt. 2 years later i get a court date, supervisor advice is go 50/50. wrote up all the detail like you and i won. wont get back the 2 overpayments of having a claim though when i had to renew the insurance. at least going to court and the solicitors fees were paid for by insurance
glad you won

He wouldn't move over from fast lane and stuck to 70. So what do you do? Overtake on inside, more out to outside lane and accelerate.
Unfortunately there was a slip road near by and a police can sat at the top, witnessing my actions.
Anyway, pulled over and ticket issued.
a few weeks later and summons arrived, but the charge wasn't for speeding or overtaking on inside but Driving without due care and attention. Needless to say, this I wasn't having and duly arrived in court and pleaded Not Guilty.
When questioned on what grounds, my statement was along the lines of "I was fully aware of what I was doing, I checked around me, signalled my intention etc and performed what I had planned to be a safe manuevour. As a result I did not believe that I was Riding without due care and attention"
I was somewhat gobsmacked when the Judge let of the charge. If the charge was speeding, then that would have been it, however the policeman wanted to go for a charge that was potentially more serious.
I guess somedays are good, others not so. This particular day was in my favour.
On another day I was charged for speeding, 96 in a 60. I believe I was only doing around 70, but hell its my word against theirs. I guess in most instances the courts favour the cops.

The clinic charged you $200 to plead the case, the court charged you $251 for court cost (which conveniently for them was the price of the ticket). So you paid $451 to plead not guilty so you got no points on your license. You may have been able to retain a lawyer for $500 and got the whole thing thrown out but I guess the lawyer would have got the money and not the county. Also I'm thinking if you win a case aren't court costs waived??? Is it just me, or does this stink like week old red snapper? I remember when speeding tickets were about $79 or $80. I share your rage but $451 could have bought some bling for your bike.

Not perfect, but has saved me a few times when the locals are in a "revenue-raising' mood and set up shop in certain locations.
