German Technology, copied in China, Quality Crap... Would you want to trust security of your bike for less than $10.00??

If someone wants the bike bad enough, they'll take it somehow. I was thinking more of making them work a little harder. At any price, they will figure something out.

| Posted : 01 Mar 2011 - 09:39 Post title : Re: Barrel Lock (Re: ray548) | | I use the steering lock and a cheap padlock (ABUS) on the other steering lock lugs as a deterent only. Both are easily broken by someone with a little 'skill' and time. Most pros in the UK lift bikes into the back of vans as it's the fastest way to be away with a bike ... I say, if they can lift a T'Bird then they really must be determined!
A cheap padlock is not a bad idea as a deterent to an opportunistic thief. I would assume even the expensive Triumph branded type is still breakable with large bolt cutters or a quick blast with an angle grinder?
Agree that cheap padlocks (and chains for that matter) are false economy though. Got an Oxford Monster lock and chain set for attaching the bike to lamp posts if it is staying on the street over night. Got a ground anchor in my parking space at my flat (condo for the yanks!) which I recommend to anyone with outside parking and a bike of any sort.
Just my thoughts, Lee.

The 21st century calls for 21st century solutions... Scorpio Alarms Like you said, if someone wants your bike, they'll figure a way to get it. A motion-sensing, perimeter alarm can do a lot more to keep the honest people honest than locks can. WAY more expensive, though!

LOL! That just reminded me of the recent news story about the group of people who are raising money for a RoboCop statue in Detroit.
