I was tempted yesterday. It hit the mid-50s, but we have a ton of melting right now and my bike would have come home full of dirt and salt.

I did see another guy with his motorcycle out

I'm like you,Todd, wanted to get her out .The hassle of cleaning the salt off made me stop.Ya got to have that first heavy spring rain to get rid of it.I can see a cloud of salt around cars as they drive, when the roads are dry.

Uggghhh... SALT I feel for you guys and remember when they used to use a LOT of SAND on the roads here in the Denver area. CDOT and most cities now use a few different liquid deicers, but a few rural communities still dump tons of sand on the roads every year... SAND: a motorcyclist's nemesis!

Glad you got to ride-Question:did you put any petrol stabilizer product in the fuel prior to lay up? Do you suffer from 10% ethanol fuel-very glad to also know it fired right up after sitting so l ong.

4 MONTHS !!!!!! How did you manage to stay off the bird for so long. My longest stint was 5.5 weeks and it felt like I had lost my legs. As soon as the white stuff was gone so was I. Ok - the wheel rims suffered bad but I got them back with fine wire wool and a tube of autosol - my fingers are half an inch shorter after the polishing but the wheels are fine. I finished off with spraying Scott Oil inhibiter all over the wheels and lower parts of the bike - its sticky and yucky but no more finger pains.

Must have felt good after all that time.

yeah mat
i got a spray of 365 just for that purpose.
also it you are venturing out in the salt remember to spray the back hub too. noticed water can ingress there easily often oozing out a day after the bikes been washed dried and stored. point being if water gets in so will the salt.
so far no damage to the wheels but i didnt ride in the heavy salt

couldnt last 4 months though without a ride though, thats too platonic!

id have to visit a shrink

I know the alcohol doesn't help storage, but I've been storing boats all winter long with 10% ethanol for years. It fact, my past boats (and Triumph) state to fill the tank and put stabilizer in it. That process has never let me down and I have lived in states that use 10% ethanol ever since they started using the stuff.

Now I know how northerners feel, being away from the bike for 2 months is hard. Even going by the Triumph shop in Hue gets me in the mood.
Tried to edit smaller but could not do it on this computer.

Glad you were able to get her out for a ride. We have had mid 40's temps here but they are dumping de-icer every night, I think they are trying to use up the budget so they get more next year.

Mercury/Mercruiser has a new range(three steps) of fuel treatments and one is an ethanol friendly stabilzer.

That's what I used to run - I had a 1995 Malibu Echelon with a fuel-injected 350 ci Mercruiser (which is actually a GM engine). Back then they said to fill the tank (to prevent condensation) and put stabilizer in it.

We've talked on this forum about ethanol in the fuel. I think we all agree that our bikes will run better without it, but that doesn't mean it's going to damage you engine. I'd hate to see people read all the bad stuff written hear about alcohol (in the fuel, not at the pub ) and loose sleep over. The fact is that the majority of vehicles in this country run the stuff without issue. Car, boats, motorcycles, etc., continue to run loner and longer - ethanol or not.
