| | Posted : 26 Jan 2011 - 22:06 Post title : Anyone know | | | Well . i got a call yesterday from a mate i've not seen for a while , anyway it goes , what you up to , coming for a ride , i 've changed bikes . Any how he has never seen my T Bird and was keen for a ride on it . Well i met him at the pub , I was already inside having a beer when he pulled up , i walked outside and stufff me there was my T bird parked alongside his Harley , It was a Dyna 05 Superglyde
Thing is it was the same color has my T bird and any passerrby would off thought it was the same bike , both had single seat and both had T Bars . Both looked really good ,
One thing i noticed was his pegs were too far for my little legs , my forward controls are perfect for me . The other thing i noticed were his bars were higher and longer and looked so much more comfortable , anyway we swapped bikes and i hate too admit it but the higher T bars and closer to the rider was a lot better ,
He loved my bike but hated the leaning forward just like me . We both loved the sound of his pipes , but we agreed the shortie pipes are the ones for the T bird but could be a little louder , , I think forans would be the way too go but i won't because i love the look of the shorties , just wish they were a bit louder , i love the noise
But regards the bars other than thunderbike , which i've looked into , and the extra they give for the extra money just is'nt worth it there about 40 mm higher and about 25 mm further away , does anyone know of other T bars on the market . or has anyone put spacers on .
If i could get some T bars a bit longer , and hopefully forans can do a set of pipes that look the same has the shorties , I would be over the moon with the bike .
And before anyone asks how did the bikes compare , Well i thought his Dyna was a bit more comfortable only because of the bars , but mine was a lot more bike easier and faster .
Although i'm sorry to say lads i let the side down when he was on the dyna on the straights no worries i had the acceleration over him , but once we hit the twisties where it counts , i could'nt catch him, keep him in sight but could'nt catch him
But not to worry when we swapped bikes and i was on his dyna ,well then i could'nt keep him in sight he just left me for dead , and when i caught up at a crossing where he would be waiting for me , He always said the same thing , with a big smile on his face , Fack this bike is awsome .
Yep the bike did'nt let the side down just that i know from experience this guy wil leave most people for dead no matter what bike he's on , his comfort level is probably 3 - 4 levels above mine

I have the factory tbars and find they are a little too far back for me(I'm 6'2") making me sit too upright and giving my tail bone hell. I also have the stock bars at home but I haven't had a chance to change them and try. I'm sure I have seen some wider bars on the "build my triumph" accessories list.Maybe some custom made risers might be the go.
What happened to the days when we just went out and bought a bike and rode the thing....................................oh yeah it's probably called age and our old bodies can't hack it any more so we spend trying to improve.
I've got the shorties and find the noise under acceleration is loud enough for me and the traffic, done wth ringing in the ears from too loud exhausts. I've also got a mate with a new Superglide that goes like hell through the corners, but hey he never stopped riding, I had a break of 25 years and not keen to kiss the tar just yet so just let him go.
Getting back to your bars, don't discount the idea of having them adjusted by a good fabricator and rechromed.
Good luck.
Lee.

I have to say that I totally like the stock SE Bird and all I did was add a quick discreet Radar detector-I'm 6 decades and this is the most comfortable ride I have ever had, even the stock seat is comfy. I love my bike. I have a hip replacement, bad knees, a few broken back bones and just had a hernia repaired. With me wearing out it's great to have a new bike that I can ride so comfortably. So I guess we all have different shapes and sizes and for this rider the Bird fit like an old shoe.

I PREFER leaning a bit forward because after a long ride i feel worlds better because i'm not fighting the wind for hours.

Naaa....not me. I'd rather be miserable and in pain rather than do anything to disturb my sweet bird's looks.

Hey Ted, you should consider yourself lucky with all those bodily renovations and still have comfort on the stock Bird. Good for you.
My problem is an old injury(bounced down the road on my arse after my XT500's chain locked up the back wheel 26yrs ago) now being agravated by the riding position. Not the bikes fault, I'm taking my stock seat in next week to a specialist to have it reshaped so see what happens.

My prized possession there for is my beloved Air Hawk. I can ride a lot more miles with it before my butt starts screaming at me to stop.
