Agreed, but it turned into a soup sandwich.

We saw another picture of this and you couldn't see quiet as many of the glaring flaws in it in that picture. The hardtailing / frame mod is egregious. However, there are several elements I like but as a whole, it missed the mark quite a bit.

Is that rear belt pulley spoked? ... that's kind of cool.

I didn't notice that first time round - does look cool.

It would have looked a lot better if they hadn't let the Grim Reaper have a go at fabbing and welding on that back end.

certainly an interesting thing to do to a nice t-bird.

that oil bag thing looks awful.

it really needs a sprung rear hub (like the old Coventry bikes) and a real kick start (wouldn't that be fun to watch).

I find the bike very interesting. The designer was obviously going for a distressed look. It would be fun to see a similar retro design with less distress...

Uggghhhh... hard tail and springer seat. Retro styling is one thing, reverting to old technology is another. Makes you wonder what he'd do to a brand-new, state-of-the-art Formula One race car.... probably put wooden, model T wheels on it.

When I started riding back in the early 90's I must admit......I thought the retro thing was pretty cool. Now, 20 years later it's just getting old. For years motorcycle companies have been trying to bring out the next new-old styling and all I can do is......yawn. An authentic old bike????? Sure! Cool. But the new Indians/Harley's? Sorry.

I wonder if (in 2040) they will be trying to copy designs of the retro 2000's????

Just my opinion.......not trying to offend anyone.

There are no words, but off the top of my head, hideous. The simplest way to do the same thing IMO is just throw it off a 1000 foot cliff, then paint the remaining carcass completely flat black with $2 a can BBQ spray. I'd rather own a harley

Agreed they did a very poor job of it on this one.... BUT, properly set up a hardtail bike can be a very good bike. The combination of a sprung seat, wire wheels, proper tires and the right geometry can produce very good results. However each component is needed if you don't want to hammer your kidneys out your asshole during any given ride and low profile tires aren't going to cut it.

I still can't get over the exhaust on that bike. It looks like it was done with bendable conduit. The thing just sort of snakes all over the place trying to get out the back of the bike. That could of been done much better and the distressing is just way over the top. Not sure why you need to distress a bike to make it old and cool

This one works for me and there's not a scratch on it. (of course it is actually old, it doesn't have to pretend)

When reading about all the ways to fix up your Triumph or what bike to ride I can't help think of the "motto" of the Triumph Company. My gut reaction to this bike is that it's butt ugly. But I remember the company motto:

Go Your Own Way

This owner is indeed doing this..........

For me the Thunderbird is first and foremost a great handling and smooth riding bike. I'm into the ride more than the bike and am happy to leave my SE stock and work on riding as much as I can. For others the Thunderbird (or any other bike) is a blank canvas to add make their personal work of art or statement. Lately here in America were all trying to get along better with the others in the room. So I'm cutting my reaction to blast someones version and vision of how the Thunderbird should look.

Going my own way-

Capt T Bird

I'm with you here EnGage.
I kinda like it somehow... ... but there are things that I DON'T like!

All in all - a VERY good and brave project!

Lets face it - the 'Bird is really still VERY NEW to the scene - who knows what will be in 3 or 4 years.

Lose the swingarm and put a sprung Hub and it would look better.
