| | Posted : 09 Jan 2011 - 03:25 Post title : Triumph lockable saddlebags | | | I was looking for lockable leather saddlebags but ended up with Triumph OEM bags because I got a good deal on Ebay. I really wanted lockable bags so I figured out a way to make the Triumph bags lockable.
I purchased two 2" chrome hasps from an online Marine supply store and mounted them on the bags with #6 screws, washers and a dab of Loctite. The bottom section of the bag is a bit concave so I had to fashion a pull string with some old gym shorts waist drawstrings. I bought two small black padlocks from Lowes and bingo - lockable Triumph saddlebags.
Total cost about $30
Next in line (hopefully) a cure for the dreaded "bag sag"

Great project and my only hesitation is that I'm attempting a sagging bag exchange via my dealer so reluctant to drill any holes. It appears that something is in progress to address this sagging. It looks crappy. Heating with a hair dryer and bending them back in place seems to work for a few days but you can try that. I'm waiting to hear back from my dealer in Gainesville, FL.

Agree these locks don't provide perfect security - it's not easy but it is possible to wiggle you hand inside from the back and even harder to locate something and remove it.
I have Easy Brackets and always plan to remove the bags at overnight stops etc. I do however feel perfectly comfortable leaving gear and my GPS in these bags when I park the bike for a couple of hours. A few weeks ago I lost a pair of winter gloves from the saddlebags on my old bike when I went for lunch and left the bike on a fairly busy street. i am pretty sure these locks will stop this type of thing from happening again so they suit my needs.

Not exactly lockable, but at least if somebody even fiddles with the bags the alarm will go off, as you only need to move the top a fraction to trigger it.

I used the Harley universal locks on my Triumph bags. They look great, and with a dry bag inside each bag to hold everything, nothing can be pulled out the back of the bag. To get anything the bag would have to be slashed.
