I got so bored, after 5 weeks and 3 days not being able to have a ride , I dug myself a path through the ice on the side street to the clear wet road. Great - I could finally get the Bird out and I did. Wet roads and freezing fog did not stop me for my 10 minutes of fun - it felt so good after all that time.
On my return I found that the remaining snow had launched itself off my workshop roof and shattered through my cars glass sunroof and filled it with slushy snow. Now I have to hand over £470 to Volvo for that small pleasure.

Seeing as I am now walking (till the 4th of Jan) I am going to take up drinking lots of beer.

sorry to hear of your misfortune matt, not a payout you want at anytime

shouldnt volvo should have stronger sunroofs?
tell them its not fit for purpose if it cant withstand a wee drop of snow.
dont they have avalanches in sweeden?
did the snow damage the paint/roof shell? if it didnt maybe you have a case, just a thought

interestingly though isnt there a plus point in drinking beer? a siver lining!!

Bummer - yes, ouch - yes, Claim - no chance, can see Volvo saying its for letting a bit of sunshine in, not half a ton of snow.

On the bright side - it's not the bad luck that some have had on this site what with illness and crashes.

Matt,

Will insurance cover this? In this country a comprehensive claim (non moving acident) will not cause your rates to rise

You should have a discussion about this with Al Gore, his going to want proof.

From the title of the post I thought you had slid your bike and damaged the bars or side covers or something...glad to hear it wasn't that... but sorry to hear the car was minding it's own business and got attacked.

Yes it would cover, but having had a few hours to scratch my head and think, I approached Mrs1600 (who owns a service garage) and she has got me one for about £90 and can have it fitted. I never thought of going to a breaker.

Well it is a bit of a pipe dream of mine that Gore is right and soon we brits can enjoy a long hot summers ride and look forward to a pleasant winter. Looking outside, the only two words that spring to mind is 'Gore' and 'Twat'.

It always feels that there's always something waiting around the corner...

Sorry to hear that Matt! Hope it gets sorted out soon.

I nearly got a 20 kg stone bolder fall onto the car as we were driving down a mountain side! The sun had melted things a little and with that scree and boulders had started to come down! Put a nice dint in the road... God only knows what it would have done had it hit the car - I was driving the wife's Mini Cabrio!

It's nice being in a climate where I can ride year round, but believe me "long hot" summers can seem to drag on just like winter used to seem when I lived where they have such a thing. 112+ degrees farenheit does take a tiny bit of the fun out of it. Glad the Bird wasn't the victim here Mat.

112 would make up for the crap weather during the winter here. I was bought up under the African sun and could quite happily manage with it. I am a sun person.
