| | Posted : 23 Dec 2010 - 03:27 Post title : Ex T'bird owner returning to the club | | | I bought a new blue / white T'bird last December . I rode it until August of this year when I traded it for a new 2011 black / white Rocket 3 Touring bike. Big mistake on my part. I wrongly assumed the R3T would be a better bike. The T'bird is a lot easier bike to ride especially at low speeds. The R3T is a big handful at parking lot speeds. Any way I traded back to a new red Thunderbird SE last week and really do like it more than my first T'bird.
I sold all of my accessories on this site in August and now have to buy some more parts again. Glad to be back on a T'bird and able to use this siteand taalk to some nice people.

So you went from the 1600 on your first one to 1700 on the SE right? Good choice. i did the BB kit and i could never imagine going back to the 1600 now.

You have no choice as to color or the 1700 engine. Looks like the BB 1700 could be on my short list of bike changes or maybe a birthday present for me in February.

I ran some T-bird bore and stroke calculations...a DynoSim feature.
You have to run a lot of technical data, you can't just say give me 150 hp for example...I wish. So, the last thing you see is what displacement that works out to.
Would you believe it? 2300 cc is optimal if you are looking at power to weight for torque.
So, for 2015, I give you...(in bizzaro world) Rocket 2!
Why ride an inline 3 cylinder road pig when a big parallel twin is much more nimble? Rocket 2....coming soon to your imagination.

I know what you mean about the Rocket...it is a handful but it rocks, I am looking forward to having the best of both worlds by this next summer...though instead of getting the Rocket III Roadster I'll be going for the R3T...it's a touring thing .

I told him my e-mail wasn't a suggestion, but just sending it. He responded by saying he'd be lying if he said he hasn't already thought about it. Probably be a new Bird owner by spring.

| | Posted : 25 Dec 2010 - 01:23 Post title : Re: Ex T'bird owner returning to the club (Re: Theazrp) | | | Has a rocket owner . i can symphasize (scuze spelling ) they are a handful . i was going to get rid of mine a few weeks ago , two up with the wife doing a sharp u tirn , i couldn't make it with her on the back, and the camper of the road against me i could'nt push back for a 3 point turn , wife had to get of and help push me back , EMBARASSING . any way got home and said enough is enough its just too bloody big for me its going .
But has a last ditched effort , i bought the shorter ikom shocks 35 mm shorter lowered the front 20mm , and presto , its fixed , its now at the same seat height has my t bird and a perfect tourer . I will admit though its still a big heavy bike a lot easier than before but still BIG .
Now if Triumph stop ripping us off here in Aust , i could well see me swapping it for the se model , but up till now Peter Stevens have refused to import the se model instead wanting us to pay exorbinant prices to turn our base model into a tourer by paying for accessories .
Has much has i like my T BIRD its just not a bike i would want to travel a 1000 klm on at the moment , with the forward controls and t bars , .
But the , footboards , windscreen , normal bars with risers , would make the SE a great tourer i would imagine . The rocket tourer is a great bike though .
Seems like Triumph just can't seem to go wrong the last few years .

I could handle the R III alright but it was work at low speeds. It was a great bike but I'm not looking back. All I had to do was ride the TBird once and I was happy with my decision. As far as touring, I have the floor boards, windshield, saddle bags, a Throttlemeister, a Corbin seat, Zumo GPS and Motolites. I've been riding close to 50 years and it's as good a tourer as anything I've owned. I wouldn't trade it for anything I've seen on the market.

Welcome back....
The only way to be sure is to try it yourself! What works for one may not work for all. It's an expensive lesson but a very valid one. Nice to have you back.
