they had to come and get my bird yesterday. On the way home the other day we stopped after about 90 mi. for a break (well truthfully we stopped to get some beer). Off the bike for about 10 minutes or so and so it was still warm. Back on the bike and into 1st gear and hardly even at walking speed, and there were a couple of LOUD rapping noises from the engine and she died. I wasn't sure what to do so I sat a bit and started it up again and it started up fine and I began to limp home (only 2miles). It died 3 more times on the way home (lots of popping in the exhaust . Not exactly sure how to describe the noise to of you technicians , but I would have to say it sounded like something snapped in there. I love this bike but I'm really kinda pissed off at her right now. Oh well, still under warranty.

LOUD rapping noises??? Snapped??? Uhhh... like a camshaft?? Uh oh. Sounds eerily familiar. Keep us posted.

This could be as simple as the map hose coming off....when I did mine it would make these weird noises at idle, almost sounds like a really loud abrupt sneeze....decel popping was really bad and it wouldn't idle on its own. If you could get it to start again, I doubt anything big snapped or broke....

I sincerely hope that's the case. Would hate to think there will be more camshafts that look like mine did. Words like "loud rapping noises" and "snapped" bring back bad memories... but mine never died, and I didn't get any unusual popping on decel so hopefully you're right.

You are dead on! That's exactly what it was. Having read descriptions of the broken cam shafts, I was mightily worried because that noise was LOUD and my immediate thought was okay something important just broke. However since it started and got me home, I thought maybe nothing is truly broken. Triumph took care of it and I'm up and running again, so all is good.
