A good trip to the Birmingham NEC Bike show on Sunday. Not on bikes cos of the shitty weather. A good show by all makers and a good turnout. Triumph had a huge stand and it was packed every time we went back to it. TBirds were a Storm and an se in the captain America paintwork (looked quite good with all the bits on) . The Storm is a stunner and there were lots crouding around it. Nice to see the 800 Tigger in the flesh, looks nice and sturdy and very cabable. Not having sat and felt the balance and feel I couldn't compair it well with the BMW 800, but the Tigger looked to have more balls than the Beemer.
Norton had a brilliant show on, with lots of variations on the bike and stripped down bikes to show off a stunning build quality. A cnc machining center was in the corner making the top yokes from a large block of ali. Well done to Norton.
Other good stuff included the Duke Diaval, great bike, not in any way a cruiser but a stunning street bike. A Honder concept (but probs a future production) bike, adventure style with the new V4 engine from the new 1200VFR - looked the dogs bits. A nice selection of Victories ,'glad I got a bird' kept springing to mind, but nice all the same. Harley had a good stand - shame about the bikes !! The usual stuff from HD with lots of 'tassle people' dribbling through their beards. I had a sit on a 'Night prod' and felt as though I was on something out of 'Saw 4' - most people that sat on it were getting off and saying '' I'm just going back to sit on that Thunderbird and have another think''. They had a part of the stand were you got sat on a FattwatfuckBoy and they swapped and changed bars and seats so you got the right feel. At this point I asked if they had a more powerfull parrallel twin to swap over - I had to leave sharpish as it was going to be death by leather underwear and tassle strangling. But thumbs up to their seats - super comfy. Oh - forgot to say a big thumbs up to the new speedy, what a fantastic looking cruiser.
Was nice to see Triumph holding their corner and by far the most crowded stand and the next door stand being Norton , welcome back British engineering.

At home. The reason we went in a cage. Biking skies but skiing grounds.

Had a job getting good pics cos of the amount of people but you have all seen the best stuff.

Well someone looks like they are enjoying themselves eh Mat!

Throw my leg over anything and everything (as long as it was legal to do so).

Most impressive new bike: Triumph Tiger XC

Most impressive concept: Honda (Crosstourer - I think it was called) with the VFR engine

Most Impressive stand: Norton - great idea (had a little chat with the owner and he said it was a nightmare setting it up)

Seeing the Storm up close - looked good but would have been much better in matt black with shorties. New Speedmaster looked good too as did the new Speed Tripple.

Great show and I would personally like to thank East Yorkshire Fire Service for getting me to and from the NEC safely

Thanks again Mat - owe you a pint of Timmy's.

I was talking with my dealer the other day - he tells me that Triumph are REALLY on the up and coming! They are not dictating to the handlers what they have to bring to be in the club!
As it was once commented on - this kind of approach unfortunately kills off the smaller Triumph dealers - but as my dealer said, it's the only way forward in a dog-eat-dog world!

I hear that new engine in the Tiger has set a new mile-stone!
I read that Triumph quoted that this engine has outstanding torque - and that you can accelerate from 25 mph in 6th! A test reporter/rider did try it and was overwhelmed by it! Here's the clip of that German reporter who was over the moon about the torque'ieness of the engine - quoting that you could ride all the mountain roads in 5th - and he has never experienced such an engine before:

Well done Triumph!
Thank you Mr. Bloor!
...but *cough* please try to keep the prices down

EDIT:
Just watching that video again - it's amazing how LITTLE the handlebars are moved!

That is a cracking clip Birdy...tempted with the Tiger XC as a second bike. In fact I could have bought one there and then along with a Norton Cafe Racer. Booking a test ride with my dealer.

Triumph are kicking butt and Norton are looking set for a good future - great stuff!
