Feel compelled to send this because it kinda felt like I was a kid again (even though I'm probably older than most of you). Went for a ride with my buddy a few days ago. We felt like a low speed, sight seeing sort of ride so we just ambled around on surface streets. Where we were is a semi-urban area with stop lights about a quarter to half mile apart. At one stop light a bike with very loud pipes (american chopper style), arrived at the same time we did and the dude was in love with his pipes and continually racked them off, which is okay up to a point because I have no problem at all with loud pipes and have had them on other bikes, but In a bit I thought "well Bullshit" and so when the light turned green I SMOKED him really BAD with my stock Bird. At the next light I even lifted my visor to smile at him. He wouldn't even look at me. My buddy said later "I knew what was gonna happen when he racked off his pipes the first time"! Why did I do this? I don't know, because I could I guess. I usually ride like the old man I am, but sometimes ya know.......(maybe I should sell this now while there's still time......Nah!)

and the beat goes on,
the line is drawn.

a harley and a tbird, test of brawn.
when the smoke has cleared,
and the roar dies down,

the triumph is the winner,
and Harley the clown.

and so it goes, in AJ-town,
an old fart on a teebird, the beat goes on...

wait till you feel the urge for the 1700 kit, then you can really feel the oats.

I know the feeling. I have a hard time just saying no at times, at least with harleys. Why? because i can't count the times harley guys have chosen me off or just blatantly took off from a roll on when i get near. I'm being totally honest when i tell you i can't even recall another bike besides a harley trying to race me. It happened on my speedmaster, it happens on my bird. I have yet to have one pull me on either bike, and now with the BB kit i think i may be tempted even more. In fact, i'm looking forward to it because now it will make them look even more pathetic.

Isn't it odd when you think about it....the one brand of bike that has the least performance per CC of any brand on the road, and they're the ones who always wanna race.

You have to remember that Harley has been very successfull at selling the hype and the image. Most (not all...but most) try to "live" that image and believe that they are riding the baddest bike in the world. Those of us who have ridden other bikes and especially the former Harley owners who have moved on to better bikes know different and we don't fall for their line..."If I have to explain it to you...you wouldn't understand". The trouble with that is that we do understand and moved up to getting bikes that we felt gave us more for our hard earned money.

If they ride...that is great...but please spare us the "your bike isn't a Harley therefore it's s--t" attitude as WE know better.

Must be different over in the US . Here in the UK Harley riders dont want to go over 20mph in case their polish comes off. Sure you can hear the buggers but it hardly seems fair to play with them . Saying that I did burn one up that was holding the traffic up . I did the usual filtering , running the gaps when the moment allowed . Got to the front and this twerp on a Dyna doing 40 mph in a 60 holding everyone up . I made sure there was enough time in his mirror for him to be damn sure I was there and then opened her up and roared past beardy boy at about 80 mph waving politely.

Great rhyme man. I like it. Especially the "old fart on a teebird" because it's true. Perhaps we'll see one another on the road some day. We frequently ride down thru Florence to the Oracle junction and then over to the junction that goes to to Kearney and back home. Ride ON!

btw: I've got a few years on ya.

I don't think it's that much different Dru. It's all about appearance. Look at me, I'm on a Harley!....yeah okay. I really like all bikes, it's the attitude that wears.

Like Dru mentioned HD boys in the UK are slooooooooooooow! No contest, none event and I could probably manage to toast them on my push bike.

I like to give the power rangers a run for their money.

Everyone blasts around, over here. Especially Harleys.

True to form, or perhaps, here, the form was formed...they don't ack other bikes.
Either Accept or Acknowledge, take your pick of neither. It must take massive concentration. I bla-blaed past a
guy visiting on my street with a yellow hard-tail. He was just standing there with my neighbors and didn't even
raise his eyes the tiny bit it took to ack. My Road King neighbor started his usual half-ack, but then looked aaaaaaway.

No more ack for you!

Imagine my surprise the other day, on the freeway, coming back from Santa Cruz. Harley spake.

He pulled up on the left, swung in to a lane split position, and shouted GOOD! But he pointed straight to the Pony Bag
and just roared off. Leather gets the ack not the bike.

Harley guys are in denial...for most of them there was never any competition, all the other cruisers where Japanese and therefore invisible. Now things have changed.

I dont worry about the ack anymore as I wear a full face and am consequently not considered hardcore enough

My good riding buddy (rides a HD deuce) that is my neighbor as well, does not even want to ride with me anymore due to the T-bird, the addition of the BB kit, and my license plate (HDSLYR). But the good news is, another friend of mine just bought a R3 roadster and is getting a plate with (HD RIP). People are funny about their material things and how they become an extension of who they are.

Have you noticed that when you park your bike, it is usually the Harley riders who gather around the bike to take a peek? Two Harley riders could not keep off my bike when they had the chance to ride it. The styling of the Triumph Thunderbird 1600/1700 may not pas their muster, but if you smoke them and leave them in your dust, they at least appreciate the performance of the bike. Don't wait, however, for them to thank you for it. My suggestion is before folks blow of the Thunderbird, they should RIDE one, and THEN make up their mind. A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Best Triumph I have ever owned by a wide margin.

I noticed that...it took them a few minutes to catch up the first time though.

I went with the chrome lowers and wheels so for the HD boys it's a bit closer to home

I notice they will only look at it when you are out of sight. This happens to me a lot when I go to a particular watering hole for bikers. Most patrons are HD guys and they will only have a look when I am not within eye shot or so they think. I look from a far and smile especially when their face turns to a grimace when they see the license plate. LOL
