Guess I just getting old, but I acquired stock pipes from someone here a while back along with shocks, etc. I have short pipes on bike (bought it that way) and on long trip its just too loud. She also has K & N with big bore kit. 2010. I have tune from the kit install and the stock one. If I slip on the stock pipes, can I just do the 5 minute tune or just ride it.
thanks

Yes the cat is gone. I don't know if these are TORS or another brand. Can't read anything on Muffler til I pull it off. Should have looked I when did tire. I have the tune for when BB was installed by PO and stock tune. Sorry, I meant the "12 minute tune". I will check this out.
thanks

Swapped mufflers and without the cat sounds pretty good and throaty. The shorties have no name, a # 755 R or 756 L. Pretty loud. In any case will try these for a while. I have custom tune from when BB kit was done. and stock, I assume it is the 1600 tune? Will break down and check plugs pretty soon.
thanks

TORs are etched with Triumph name and off-road disclaimer, so those were not TORs that you removed. TORs look exactly like stock pipes, only shorter, and sound about the same as stock, they're certainly not loud. Removing the cat requires a custom tune, so it sounds like previous owner went to great lengths to make it loud. You might want to take a close look at the tune you're running, as short TOR tune assumes cat is present.

If a big bore kit was installed you should be running a 1700 tune not a 1600. Also the TORS are etched back by the rear bolt hole.

Was a wee bit disappointed when they were no louder (at least to me) than the originals. There was somebody on here who drove a rod thru his, but short of that they're quite effective - which I've come to appreciate. Was there more than one type? It was the only muffler option in 2010 that I know of.

Like I said , don't know what brand these are but they are straight thru and fairly loud. They are the short ones. I think they are some other brand. Honestly they were good around town, but on the long runs just got to me. Then in Arkansas in all the great roads, I had all the popping in the decelerating down hills etc. Still testing out the stock with no CAT.

At one time there was a guy with a business that modified exhaust slip ons. You sent him your pipes and he did the work. It's was called something like Chevy605 ( ?) Anyway this looks like something he would have done.

No they have side baffles held in with a screw. But they are pretty much straight thru. I will look that up. I am probably done with them but would like to know.
thanks

| Posted : 21 Jul 2020 - 14:06 Post title : Re: Stock exhaust (Re: danr620) | | Yah, those are not the short TORs. Aftermarket for sure.
As for your tune, as long as you have the TOR tune (you should check the map number with TuneECU or something), even with the "stock" non-TOR pipes, it'll run better than the factory non-TOR tune. With the K&N and the cat delete, it won't be as good a custom map (either TuneECU or dyno tuned), and nothing will fully get rid of the popping on deceleration without a full tune job. But it'll pop a bit less.
If "too loud" is your issue, then the only real way to cut that back is to put the cat back in!

At this point, stock pipes, K&N, no cat, BB tune, it sounds pretty good, pops a little and seems to run well. Throaty sound, guess thats the cat delete. Will check plugs when I get brave and watching mileage.
thanks Guys
