I found a set on Pure-Triumph for $450.00 free shipping. They are called "Triumph Thunderbird Long High Flow Silencer Kit A9618052" I believe these are the ones I'm looking for but confused on the wording "Silencer Kit". Can anybody explain this? Also noticed that the K&N air filters are a lot cheaper that the Triumph Performance Air Filter. Any reason not to get the K&N Thanks, Pat

I'm using the K&N air filter and Long TORs; good combo. FYI, you're also going to want to install the TORs tune (replace the stock map for your EFI) and re-run the 12 minute tune.

There's also some (IMHO, unfounded) speculation that the oil that's used in the filter can get into the fuel delivery and foul injectors, etc.
If you follow the K&N instructions, and don't oversaturate it, you should be good. If you soak it through, and don't allow time to dry out, then I guess you could start getting some degree of that filter-oil "mist" into the system.
The other high flow filters (I think) don't require oiling, etc.

Agreed on both counts. 1st, the air intake is separate from the fuel intake. IF you over-oiled, you may get oil in the intake and it may burn off in a smoky mess, but foul the injectors? Nah! 2nd, I over oiled a K&N on my Legend once and it simply choked off the air supply and bogged the engine down. Ran awful until I did it right!

I always work with the "real pink" method, if its really red (the filter with oil) you have put to much of it on. When they are new i always take some paper towel and soak up any of the oil that is on the outside of the filter, let it sit out of the package for a while to dry out and get tacky then throw it in.

Yes. the Triumph hi-flow filter ( foam ) requires oil but it's very tacky.

See Link I did mine a few weeks ago and no problems; wash, let dry and then spray on a single light coat.

Sticky and tacky perfectly describe what i use, UNI filter oil. Comes in a aerosol spray. I use VERY little, and IMO it's the fact that it's so sticky that you don't need more than the slightest amount u can apply. You could probably apply it to strips of paper and make your own fly paper.

My previous bike called for the same service interval as this one. So about every 18 months or so I have been guilty of just replacing it and moving on. They come ready to use. I will save money doing my own oil changes. I am assuming that the Triumph Performance air filter comes oiled and ready to use. Pat

I mentioned to a Triumph mechanic that when I do my valve checks it's always the inlets that need adjusting, he asked what filter i was using. When I said the triumph foam one he said try going back to paper, the foam one may be letting dirt through which is wearing the inlet seats. This is the second time a triumph mechanic mentioned this, the other one said that once a foam filter gets a bit of dirt on it it ceases to become a performance filter.
I've only had the paper one in a short time, the engine feels a tiny bit more responsive, I will see what the autotune tune is doing with changes after my next longer ride.

Right about what TOR stands for (but not the rest). There are short and long TORs available; I've got the long TORs. Since the TORs are more open pipes, you need to install the TORs tune (map), regardless of cat or no cat. I left my cat in place because I respect the environment.

Been running K&N air filter, stock mufflers, cat delete (elbows) and stock tune for a good while now. Runs great, gets about 50MPG. I now have the stock Commander mufflers, but only a different shape. I think they're similarly baffled.

I like the short TORS as they aren't in the way when changing tires or adjusting belt. Got the short TOR tune when installed years ago. BTW: If I'm not mistaken, the cat converters have been stuffed into headers on newer models.

Dealer says that no tune is necessary with just cat bypass, but will be necessary when I install the long TOR's. Will be a couple of weeks before they arrive. I like the long pipes look. Pat

Oih Lee As discussed I changed back to the K&N Air Filter after the " Triumph ITG Sports foam Filter" fell apart during washing. I would definitely have to agree that My bike seems substantially more responsive than what it was with the Foam Filter.
